Chrono Trigger gets PSN release window in Japan

Following news of the impending release of Chrono Trigger on the U.S. PlayStation Network service (well, whenever Sony gets around to fixing it anyway), Square Enix has announced a release window for the classic role playing game's Japanese Game Archives debut.

 

According to gaming news site Siliconera, Square Enix has laid down a Spring release for the game over in Japan. Although the game has been rated for a PS3 and PSP release in the U.S., Square Enix has yet to formally announce a release date for the region.

 

Chrono Trigger originally debuted as a Super Nintendo title in 1995 and was then ported to the original PlayStation in 1999. Much more recently, the game appeared on the Nintendo DS handheld in 2008. The DS release included additional content not found in previous releases. Chrono Trigger is also getting a port for the Nintendo Wii console's Virtual Console service.

I suppose if one only owns a PSP, this would be desireable, but the load times were heinous... Perhaps in digital form it would perform better but I doubt it. I highly recommend the DS port... Screw the extra content, the game itself at unbridled SNES emulation is worth the cash alone.

The Chrono games are some of the best for their time and genre. I hope they make this port really good and bring it to the U.S. too. 8)
