F.E.A.R. masterminds Monolith Productions have announced their next project -- and the concept's a bit off the wall. The studio's new game is called Gotham City Impostors, a first person shooter based on the Batman universe.
Batman has a marked aversion to using guns, so of course the Dark Knight himself won't be running around shooting down his enemies. Instead, gamers will play as either Batman or Joker impostors called Batz and Jokerz, respectively.
Players can customize their own characters with insane costumes, homebrewed gadgets and a wide range of traditional and imagined weapons. The game will feature maps and modes inspired by the Batman universe.
"Gotham City Impostors blows apart expectations for superhero games with an exaggerated take on first person shooters, set in a part of the DC Universe players have never seen before," said Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President, Production and Development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.
"Monolith is creating a game that turns Gotham City upside down and we think fans are going to have a blast with this creative twist on multiplayer heroism and anti-heroism as they play up the classic rivalry between Batman and The Joker."
Gotham City Impostors will be available as a download-only title on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
