First, a warning: If you still haven't finished Final Fantasy XIII, there's a bit of a story spoiler in this paragraph. Now that that's out of the way, it seems Vanille's transformation into a crystal at the end of Final Fantasy XIII won't be affecting her inclusion in the sequel, Final Fantasy XIII-2.
Her voice actress, Georgia van Cuylenberg, recently revealed on Twitter that she is reprising her role in XIII-2. Whether Vanille shows up only in flashbakcs or as some kind of psychic projection or whatever is unknown, as van Cuylenberg is light lipped on that aspect. She desribes it as a "very different experience", however.
Final Fantasy XIII-2 is Square Enix's attempt to complete the plot of XIII. Producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Motomu Toriyama have promised fans that the story in XIII-2 will be a tad darker compared to the original, complete with twists and turns that make the plot less than straightforward.
