New PS3 Custom Firmware Allows Slim Users to Boot Petitboot |

For those of you that don’t know, Petitboot is an alternate graphical interface that can be used on jailbroken PS3s. If you are not a fan of Sony’s both loved and hated XMB interface, Petitboot’s more streamlined look may tickle your fancy just a little bit more.

Previously, it had been a multi-step procedure to use this on your device, but now thanks to Glevand working with Petitboot is as simple as turning on your system with the power button. This feat was accomplished simply by modifying the PS3s GOS loader. What’s more is, the readme for the firmware also says that this environment will allow you to cold boot straight to Linux should you choose to do so. If you are the type of user that has Linux on their system and uses it frequently, this may seem like a wise enough choice for you to indulge in.

Was expecting N/A but really want to get the best out of PS3 when hacked, but I gotta stay patient till then.
I really want to use PS3 as a Linux OS computer because it'd better than the PC I'm using now.

It isn't an alternative to the XMB in that it will run Game OS applications/games.
