GameStop: PS3, 3DS Sales Up with new Price Drop |

GameStop has apparently seen an immediate increase in sales with Nintendo's 3DS and Sony's PS3, including US chain of Target who claimed to have an immediate increase in sales.
Despite GameStop's president Tony Bartel claiming last night that console sales were down in the second quarter with only accounting a total of 7.5% of profits, he was encouraged by the recent surge in sales, "We have seen a significant acceleartion in the sale of the PS3 and 3DS, so we do expect for there to be an increase".
He was honest with his investors adding, "although these were not unexpected price decreases...or reductions...we had projected, obviously, the 3DS was somewhat larger than what we had anticipated. But we do see that will spark demand in the 3rd and 4th quarter", clearly GameStop were expecting an increase, but the profits from the sales but their confidence for the rest of the year isn't absurd.
What this could mean for game retailers both on and offline is a possible decrease in christmas sales, depending on the spending power of the US Consumer. If more people are purchasing the console, either as an impulse buy or simply due to the price drop, they will either not be in demand around christmas time or both companies will not be able to deal with the amount of demande from previous SKU sales, whether it's old or new consoles.
I did notice whilst walking through the city a large amount of people lined up at my local EB Games and most walking out with 3DS or big bags filled with Sony's console, it's pretty much high times for both consoles and whether or not Microsoft will drop their price again this year will be up to XBox's marketing team and how they want to proceed after November's big releases.
