Sony - The PS3 May Be Delayed

Well color me surprised! (not really) Very few people actually believed that the PS3 was going to make its proposed spring launch, but it looks like Sony has finally come out and admitted it themselves. According to Next Generation, an unnamed spokeswoman came out to say that the console might be delayed because of the difficulty the Blu-Ray Consortium is having finalizing specifications for the next-gen optical media format.

I'm willing to bet it will be pushed back to fall...maybe summer release for japan..fall for US....and late 2006...to early 2007 for EU

At this point no one can be sure of anything. Sony have previously been adamant that the console would launch in the Spring in at least one territory, that would seem to have changed now.

With the blu-ray fiasco....no sign of demos of games...no sign of preorders...no sign of anything really suggesting it to be launched in spring besides sony saying, 'yes it will launch in spring" I don't see how it could make it to spring...

Unless.

Sony has kept everything on the downlow....and will blow us all way in at least a month....

Because Spring ends in April right?......

With my PS2 games. The way I see it, the longer it takes them to launch, the more time I have to save money. As always a great blog. I linked to you on my blog.

Delays are expected. the PS2 for instance was delayed quite a bit.

Id rather take the delays and recieve a good console rather then something like the Xbox360. Low Supply, High Demand, and a small selection of good games.

This gives developers moe time to work on touching up the games.

look people your all taking this negatively. the ps3 might be delayed o well, but then the product is gonna be worth it. you never know, they might even put something special in the ps3. and anothe thing is that the games will be good and ready for launch so the games will be better than any launch titles. as we all know the 360 launch wasnt a A+ id say mor like D and didnt i watch something on G4tv that even the experts said that it was a bad lauch.

they are making people want the ps3 even more now and when they get it they will have a completed product that can play HD movies unlike the 360 which is another bonus. duh

this could be another trick for sony...... look at it like this. sony says that it will be delayed , ok fine people get pissed and are like WTF, but what if they actually lied and did realease in spring like a jack in the box just popping in like that. now that would really get everbody jumping for joy. id say it would be a great selling point.

If anything I am a bit dissapointed as i live in the Uk in Europe so I am going to see the great console last. But on the other hand i am happy as now I have more time to save for accessories and games. My PS2 can easily entertain me for a few more months along with my PSP so i think I can hold out. As commented above it would be better for sony not to rush this console unlike the xbox 360 which I must say has to be the biggest flop and a very huge dissapointment. So maybe this is good news for Playstation gamers as now we won't have as much problems as the xbox 360 faced and more money to dish out on games :)

This is not a trick from Sony at all. The PS3 will most likely be delayed because of the blu-ray drive. They are waiting for the a final decision on the security program that will protect the movies from being copied. All HD-DVD and Blu-Ray will have the same standard so it is out of Sony's hands. The good thing about this is it gives Sony enough time to mass produce all the other components and also gives developers more time to polish the launch titles. I can wait because there are still good games being released for the PS2 that I would like to play.

Will this hurt Sony? Yes, but if they have a killer product the masses will come!

I will not belive anything from "unnamed spokeswoman". Until Sony itself releases a press release stating different, I will still believe the Spring 06 launch.

If it was really Sony, it would have a name. I love all this "unnamed" junk flying around. Here's a thought, be big enough to put a name, if not, then stop beliveing everything you see/hear from "unnamed".

Depeneds on when this was actually pur somewhere, the Anti-Piracy for both Blu and HD stopped Sony for a day or two, due to the software.

And those who belive they are having an issue with the drives, remember this, they are the creators and manufactures of the drives, so then you would see the stand alone units also yelling about a delay.

# People remember PSP?Grover 2006-02-28 19:51
The same anaylsts and same hype mongering idiots went on and on about the PSP costing $500 or $600 and being delayed till mid 2005 (just google, there are hundreds of analysts reports).. and yet the PSP was launched when Sony said - Nov 2004. At a pretty decent price (certainly for what was in it). So quit with the hype/rumour mongering. The only people that WANT the PS3 to be delayed are X360 fanboys.. and they dont have alot to be happy about at the moment. With only 850,000 units sold up until the end of Jan 2006 (see NPD reports) .. it has been an utterly poor launch.. and futher poor pickup rate for a holiday season.

Analysts are never right...I don't recall one time that an analysts predictions were even close to the final costs. So we should wait untill sony officially anounces the price....

Why should 360 fanboys not have something to be happy about?...of the 850,000 people that have a 360...I don't see why they won't be happy.

I agree that the launch of the console was poor, but when it comes to the games...it is better then most...especially the ps2 and ps1 launches(as far as games go)

My kids loved the character, I started using it 10 yrs ago (when they were little), and it stuck :)

Btw PS2 wasnt that bad - the launch statistics are funny when you look them up. The PS2 launched with 29 games in the US :) .. more than any other console yet. Seems people have bad memories for that sort of thing. Heres a little list of the console launches in US, with some of the titles that came out with it:

Launch titles for PSP (24): Lumines, Ridge Racer, Tiger Woods, FIFA, NFSU, Wipeout.

Launch titles for PS2 (29 ): DOA2, DW2, Madden, Midnight Club, Ridge Racer, SSX, Summoner, Tekken Tag

Launch titles for Xbox (19): Halo, Oddworld, PGR, Madden, Tony Hawks, DOA3

Launch titles for GC (12): Wave Race, Star Wars RS, Super Monkey ball, Madden, Tony Hawks 2

# One last thing.Grover 2006-03-01 12:16
The reason I mentioned 850,000 was poor, is that it is way below MS expectations. They have now twice revised their first quarter targets, and will need to again. Not alot to cheer about in terms of market penetration, and gaining any sort of market lead.

# I agree but...Vecha 2006-03-01 16:28
I think the launch of the system was poor...they rushed it...and didn't get enough out there for the demand...

but for games...I think it was good, imho.
