Sony announced that it will launch its brand new video format in North America on May 23rd. Wait, that's not all, it will launch with these stellar(and arguably, less than stellar) titles: 50 First Dates, The Fifth Element, Hitch, House of Flying Daggers, A Knight's Tale, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, XXX, and The Last Waltz. Should that not meet your movie fancy, the second wave of releases will be hitting stores on June 13: Kung Fu Hustle, Legends of the Fall, RoboCop, Stealth, Species, SWAT, Terminator and Underworld: Evolution.Speculation for the Blu-ray(BD) movies will be $24.99, but no official Sony figures have been released for the first batch of movies as yet. However, Lionsgate has already begun to price to their offerings. Their first two movies, Lord of War and Crash, will retail at $39.99 each and its other three titles, The Punisher, Saw, and Terminator 2, will retail at $29.99. Their second batch of films: Reservoir Dogs, Total Recall, Stargate, the Dune miniseries will go at $29.99; however, the horror film The Devil's Rejects will go at $39.99.
While the discs have about 50Gigs worth of storage, there hasn't been any word on what special features they will have.
Lastly, the Samsung BD player's (the BD-P1000) release will coincide with the launch of the movies and will be priced at $999. I don't know about everyone else, but I think I'll just stick with my DVDs for now and wait for a PS3.

Hmm, if they were having an issue with the drives, these stand alone would be delay'd as well.
Guess we shall see in the next month or so what Sony will do.
Just waiting for a actual press release one way or another on the PS3 release.
And yea, I am waiting for the PS3, not going to buy a stand alone unit. PS3 will be going into my main theater anyway.
