One of the several utilities that anyone with custom firmware should have is PS3Tools. Originally released by fail0verflow, PS3Tools is a collection of tools that assist in the compiling and uncompiling of PS3 related files such as firmware updates, SELF and PKG files. PS3Dev has been adding a GUI to PS3Tools for those who fear using the command line for stuff. Here are the changes included in the 1.1B update:

Changes:

  • Added Dev_flash and Dev_flash3 dumper
  • Removed conf editor
  • Removed space wasting buttons
  • Added other tools section
  • cleaner GUI
  • No extra tab screen
  • faster
  • less memory by about 4mb

Bugfixes

  • No more random cmd box popping up.
  • Fixed memory issue
  • Fixed permissions glitch

PS3Dev has also included a tutorial video on how to use everything that's included within PS3Tools, ensuring that you get the most bang for your buck.

You can grab the updated version of PS3Tools by following the link over to PSX-Scene.

Awesome. Glad someone around here knows homebrew, because I (obviously) don't.

It's just sad the huge lack of Homebrew on Ps3 & 360 now and no signs it's ever gonna change, i mean i still have my old Xbox 1 connected to my Tv because it is and probably always will be the ultimate Homebrew console, plus i've had the thing for over 10 years and it's still running like new, and i certainly can't say that about all the Ps1,2,3's and 360's i've gone through over the years.

I still have my original PS1 and it works like a bauce. I've never had a single system fail on me, not even a 360. The care, use and environment play a crucial role on the longevity of your system, specially crappily designed ones

I'm seriously OCD about looking after all my electrical stuff but still i've had 3 failed Ps1 drives, 2 Ps2 drives and 1 Psu, 2 Rrod'd 360's and 1 Ylod'd Ps3, and my Xbox 1 has survived over a decade of fairly heavy use the first 5 years and still regularly used for Emulators and just hasn't missed a beat, i think it's cos they are basically just Pc's inside so more reliable than the custom made stuff they use now, either that or somehow i've been incredibly lucky.
