One of the several utilities that anyone with custom firmware should have is PS3Tools. Originally released by fail0verflow, PS3Tools is a collection of tools that assist in the compiling and uncompiling of PS3 related files such as firmware updates, SELF and PKG files. PS3Dev has been adding a GUI to PS3Tools for those who fear using the command line for stuff. Here are the changes included in the 1.1B update:
Changes:
- Added Dev_flash and Dev_flash3 dumper
- Removed conf editor
- Removed space wasting buttons
- Added other tools section
- cleaner GUI
- No extra tab screen
- faster
- less memory by about 4mb
Bugfixes
- No more random cmd box popping up.
- Fixed memory issue
- Fixed permissions glitch

I still have my original PS1 and it works like a bauce. I've never had a single system fail on me, not even a 360. The care, use and environment play a crucial role on the longevity of your system, specially crappily designed ones
