Venix Downgrader GUI is a tool by OverX and HwapX which is intended to patch a dump of your PS3's NAND, so that it can used to downgrade the console from whatever firmware it is on, to another one, mainly 3.55. Venix was deemed unsafe because it did not implement the correct validation checks on the patched NANDs, which resulted in the possibility of bricking PS3s. With this being the main source of criticism against the app, OverX has worked to release a new version of Venix Downgrader with the proper checks in place.
The new version of Venix Downgrader now checks the headers of the NAND and NOR and displays a warning if anything goes wrong. In the event that it does, OverX has provided instructions on how to get going again, using Flow Rebuilder.
It's great to see that OverX isn't playing the blame game here and is embracing the criticism to benefit everyone in the scene. If only True Blue can learn from this.
