Ó

Samsung has announced their BD-1000 Blu-ray player. It will be shipped this spring within the United States.
Does this mean the PS3 will not be released in the spring as a player? We hope not.

I dont know about you guys but that thing looks ugly.
Besides, releasing a BD player in Spring could also mean that PS3 will likely have a launch then wont it?
Or does Sony want the BD market established with expensive BD players and then launch a (comparatively cheaper) BD player so people will buy the PS3 just because of that?!

It looks too big. I wonder if those are the actual players that they are going to be releasing. PS3 is big but it has many components in it. I wonder why just a regular BD player would be bigger than the PS3 when the PS3 also has the BD-ROM.
BD is ready to be mass produced. They have everything ready compared to the HD-DVD. Thats why they are going to start selling them this spring. I dont think this will affect the PS3. I guess the price of a regular BD player would be around the same price for a PS3.

Come on, use your brain - there will be lots of different players for Blu-Ray. If one is released by one company that says less than nothing about other companies. Or maybe the other way around - if one company comes with a Blu-Ray player, so will others.

wow that thing looks like crap, lol

Actually if they release it before the ps3 it will in a way help out Sony. You see the thing is most people are sceptical at the moment about these new formats. Microsoft already has plans for hd-dvd this year so having a player for the blu-ray will help in the format war. In a way i'm glad its coming out sooner because this means that by next year there will be faster, less expensive blu-ray players. I remember when dvd players were blood expensive and look at them now. You can litterally pick up a no name brand dvd player that will play all vcd/mp3/dvd/cd for 25bucks. Or named brand ones like Sony for under 100 dollars. Even the top qaulity ones are under 150bucks atleast where I live thats how cheap they are.

4:13 AM-
Neither HD-DVD or BluRay players are ready to be mass produced or they would be coming out in weeks.
And, FYI, HD-DVD players are coming out the end of March (my guess a good three months before BluRay players) and at about half the price or better.

This thing does look pretty damn ugly, but have you seen Toshibas HD-DVD player? ITS GIGANTIC!!! and just as ugly >.<

This is the person that just made the last comment, that huge..um, thing, will cost $799.99 0.0;

Actually, the $799 is for the high-end Toshiba HD DVD player. There is another version that will cost $499. Pioneer just released the price for their Blu-ray player and its a whopping $1800. I do not see Blu-ray suceeding with such a price difference. I also do not see how the PS3 could include Blu-ray drive and be anything less than $500.

The Pioneer is a recorder, hence the high price tag.

No it isnt. It's just $1800 with no CD support.

The thing that im scared about is that sony has a blue ray player ready for production and its not the ps3!

this is a smart move, for the drive can get people aquainted with the new drive and by the time the PS3 arrives the drive will drop in price by the hundreds giving people a chance to deside on a stand alone player or a PS3 which has the same player and you can play games on it. its a freebie that you get more bang for the buck if you get the PS3

This is not what the real one looks like, the one at CES is actually pretty nice. This one isnt really going to make the one in the PS3 less expensive, it'll just make it seem less expensive. Basically people would think "The PS3 is such a great deal, just for the BD-Player alone." Which is basically what happened with DVD-Players, only the PS2 and DVD-Players were closer in price range. Or atleast we think the PS3 will be nowhere near $1800! Cuz that'll definitely require many people to "work more ours".
