Ocean Marketing PR problem spreads like wild fire |

You may have heard this story making the rounds on IGN, Kotaku and a few other places but I picked it up from Penny Arcade - the classic source for everything good, geeky and funny when it comes to the games industry. It was late at night on the road and people began to tweet about it with just simple titles like : CHECK OUT THIS GAMING FAIL, and the links seemed more and more similar. I finally looked at it when I got home and this may be one of the greatest fails in the history of both gaming and marketing.
The story starts off innocently enough as a customer looking to see if his PS3 Avenger Controller was going to come around before Christmas. The Avenger Controller helps those with disabilities and people who cannot normally play video games overcome any problems with the help of a slightly configured controllers style. The company behind the controllers, Ocean Marketing dealt out some wicked backlash to the customer, simply asking about the date his controller would arrive.
The reply was a simple but abrupt:

David is initially confused, asking whether that's when they sent it or when it will arrive. Paul Christoforo, the person dealing with Dave, replies again saying they're still on their way from China. Dave assumes that the shipping dates will then be a bit skewed, especially since Dave had paid for the controllers in November.
The response from Paul is quite ridiculous saying that if they "catch" anyone trying to cancel or change an order, they cancel the order right out and then says that no customer is special and finally ends with the wonderfully stupid:
Feel free to cancel we need the units we're back ordered 11,000 units so your 2 will be gone fast. Maybe I'll put them on eBay for 150.00 myself. Have a good day Dan
Dan?! DAN! I would have professed from the comfort of my lazing position. I would have sent the email to many different gaming websites, which is exactly what Dave did. But first he sent a fairly well-written and strong point in return to Paul. Sure a lot of caps lock was used, a few spelling errors and a tiny bit course language, but the ending of the email from Dave is the icing on the cake for those who've put up with terrible customer service, who wish they knew who they were talking to.
Mr. Saul Christoforo is quite well-versed in social networking and has a YouTube and Twitter account. Dave found the former and ends his response as such:

p.s. You look really duchy be having one youtube video complaining about the noise of traffic next to your home and then another video showing off your obnoxiously loud rice rocket (which is nice, I gotta hand it ya).

And roll Dave did with the word being spread around the internet. But Sail has a shield...apparently he knows the "Editor N Chief" of Kotaku and then thanks "Dan" for the FREE PR. Sail then follows it up saying simply "see you at CES, PAX East...", now for those of you who are fans of Penny Arcade, know they run PAX East and that's when they get in on this with Mike Krahulik replying saying that if Avenger Controllers have a booth at PAX East, it won't be there next year.
Then Ocean Marketing, maybe not Paul, attacks Mike saying they have "bigger and better shows" to be at. It's like a PR equivalent of "Yo Mamma jokes," as the childishness of OM spills through like a bunch of disgruntled 360 gamers who have decided to set up shop. The PR for the company is going up in flames and whoever is at the helms is laughing his head off.
Mike says that he is the owner of PAX and also Penny Arcade. The PR guy claims he is a fan and a moment that could only be summed up by a slow zoom in and a straight look down the lense, Mike says:
I'm glad you like it....You'll be on it tomorrow [para-phrased for badassery]
And so it was written in the internet heavens that their douchebaggery will live on this earth forever. You can read the entire email exchange on the Penny Arcade webste
