Well it looks like the first week of UK sales for the Vita are in and the Chart-Track, which monitors all things sales and gamey, have come in with a stat showing that awhopping 79% of people who bought the Vita bought the simple Wi-Fi edition. The 3G version accounted for only 21% of sales and with 23 launch titles already floating around out there, it seems more people are playing them at home then in the streets. That being said, most restaurants have a Wi-Fi link as do most households, so the purpose of 3G may be lost on some consumers, especially with 4G being rolled out on multiple networks this year.

It seems actually the top two sellers for the first week of Vita sales have shown FIFA and Uncharted top the charts with more than half of the sales of Vita games, going directly to Naughty Dog and EA Sports. Actually Rayman Origins topped the charts at number five which is awesome for that little guy.  So did you pick up a Vita, how did you fare with it?

Did you get 3G or Wi-Fi?

everybody has smartphones now that are capable of turning into a hotspot, and nobody wants to pay the extra $50 on top of a $20 per 200mb or whatever it was.

I got the wifi version because my iPhone has hotspot capability,no point in paying for another data plan when I can just use my tethering plan. The 50$ is better spent on a memory card which I highly suggest getting a 16 or 32,definitely nothing less than 8 though. The only thing on the 3G version has that my be worth the 50$ extra is that it has a real GPS in it and again my iPhone has that. They should have just gave the 3G Vita phone capabilities and I wouldn’t have to carry 3 devices all the time. (iPhone,Vita,3DS)

Neither yet. At least not while i'm expected to pay nearly £350 for Vita, memory card & the only 2 half decent games.

Well, if I bought a vita, I might get the 3g version cause I'm still seeing the ones that have the extras bundled. 8gb memory card covers $30. Essentially that makes the 3g 20 dollars more expensive. If I want to I can always swap my phone's sim for the vita's sim. Its likely I'd need to do that too cause tethering kills my battery.

Hmm, maybe I should get the WiFi hotspot since I have a 4G unlimited plan. But that's $240 more.

Meh. Tethering isn't as great as I thought.

I got Wifi in the UK I have truly unlimited data with no fair usage policy so if I need to use 3G I can easily tether my iPhone :P

Which network you getting unlimited 3G with? because i joined giffgaff the other month and got a data bar for using 17gb in the first month and it took over a week before they restored it, and the other day i downloaded a few games which totalled 1.2gb and they barred me again for what they call excessive use on what is apparently an unlimited plan with no fair use policy, so if anyone's thinking about joining them just don't.

Giffgaff offer an unlimited data service for your mobile device only. Giffgaff do state that tethering is not allowed on normal data plans. 17gb is excessive over a month. And 1.2 in a day is taking the p***. Im a heavy data user and i use 3.5-4.5pm.

it woul dbe dumb to buy a 3g vita just to pay money for a shity limited service, as we all know if you pay for a limited data phone service you can make your device into a wifi hotspot unlimited without extra charge - theres an app for that-so why bother, even if you carry you vita around you r still will carry your phone around, so it begs the questiong you pay more for the vita 3g then you can pay more for a shitty limited service, until someone jailbreaks the device and the vita starts using the 3g as a phone device as well and not only gaming and text message then who knows...

The 3G version has GPS. I actually think GPS is more important than the actual 3G.

I got the 3G but it's worth the efforts. I'm using the sim card from my Ipad for the 3G service! (works like a charm) :)

If I were to buy PS Vita, I'd go with Wi-Fi only, don't really give 2 craps about 3G.

I had problems toping up my 3g vita, it wont take my debit card so i had to create a account on vodafone but i got so far then my sim card rang out of credit or locked out before i could go on...
I wish i had a top up card that you could just use in a shop.

My assumptions of why people bought the wifi over the 3g is 1.the 3g model is more expensive, 2.everyone can just use there phones for 3g,3.The extra money not used for the 3g model can go towards a game, memory card or other accessories,4.Not everybody wants to go with at&t as tmobile has way better deals for unlimited 3g ,Lastly, there are not enough games and features that would be worth using 3g for yet.Once COD comes out for it maybe itl do better but bottom line is most of the games that are out for it opted out of multiplayer modes for b.s ghost play etc which is a shame because games like rayman & modnation racers would have sold even more copies had it adopted multiplayer.Hopefully they just release dlc that enables it for the games that dont.My opinion is that sony should have either A.Came out with the 3g model months later or B.Sold only the 3g models for the price of the wifi model.More is always better. The only way the vita would compete with smart phones is to offer everything smartphones do but more.

3G is slow, Sony should of made the Vita more future proof by making it have a 4G model instead.
Maybe we'll get 4G model when Sony make PSVita Slim or when 4G becomes mainstream.

i got a 3G just for the GPS. im well aware that the near app works on the wifi only model as well, but its accuracy is dependant on wifi hotspots registering themselves with a single ip databaee provider (skyhook) for all of its location based services, Besides you never know what apps will come out that will take aadvantage of the GPS.

Additionally by registering an keeping my systems 3G identificafion information theres a slim possibility of using the 3G as a means to locate it if it gets stolen and the theif uses it.

I purchased the Wifi only version from Target the other day and got a 4gb memory card for free and of course I had to pick up Uncharted: Golden Abyss. I was actually on the fence on getting the 3G version, but then I read the fine print in regards to getting the free game.

How to get your game:

Select and sign up for an AT&T DataConnect Pass plan.
Login to your PlayStation®Net work account on your PS Vita.
30 days after your DataConnect Pass activation, you will receive a game voucher code redeemable on the PlayStation®Sto re.

And after reading that, I was like, 3G not for me.

The wifi Vita is the sh!t. Most people already iPhone's and Android with all there social stuff in it, and in my case my 2010 Camaro have a 7 inch touch screen build in with TomTom GPS build in too, and my phone have GPS too with TomTom, and most people already have that too, for me it's over kill.

Near needs a 3G model. otherwise the ap pretty useless. I've got a 3G vita and have more that twice as many new records on wipeout, three times as many gifts and lots more new psn/sen friends suggestions . If I'm gonna spend the money to get a vita why not go for the best? unless you spend time setting your phone to tether each time, which is a good alternative I spose.

Short story long.
I owned a Vita for 22 hours, only used it for about 2, saw too many things wrong with it, then returned it. I posted a 1star review on Amazon then got bashed by Sony fans from every side.
