Watch: Sony PS Vita Dev Diary

Ó

If all your friends started doing dev diaries for PS Vita, would you?

PS fans, get ready to see some work being done on your next handheld.

Dev Diaries often fall into two categories where you actually care about the people versus, you just care about what their developing. There's always a third category where teh developers are so mind numbingly un-charismatic that it makes you wonder why  they do what they do, but then you can more often than not chalk it up to long working hours and chronic sadness.

The PS Vita is really gonna be huge. I'm far from a Sony fanboy, or any fan boy for that matter, but Vita has a lot of potential as a gaming platform and a media device. With the connectivity, price and usefulness with Sony's other devices, it could be a must-have item for 2012.

The actual sales, however, may be different depending on early developers versus platform developers. We do not want ports for the Vita, no one really does, but it will probably be the way that it goes, much like the Android does not have any "stand out "games, they're more or less, the same game you can get on your iPhone...just on your Android phone.

If Vita keeps a diary itself i know exactly how it will sound.
January 2013: Why don't developers love me anymore? I've done nothing wrong have i? i used to get all these amazing games but just like daddy Psp all i'm getting is crappy sequels and movie tie-ins, and mommy Sony still keeps saying it's not iPhone's fault.

If being better was more important why is countries like UK run by inbred halfwit politicians? because people settle for the easy, lazy choice and people just accept the limitations of iPhone because it's a phone and the games are acceptably good, and Vita only plays games with that 3G option being too slow and restricted to be any use for anything.

umm... you are aware psp, has a very big catalog of great games, the only reason ppl stopped making games was that CFW was taking all the game sales so no one trusted making games on it anymore. the psp was doin fine for like 2 years till that happened. plus devs wanted a second joystick and not only that real joysticks, which they got now. devs are the ones who designed vita, so its kinda hard for them not to like it. so do me a favor, know your facts before you troll :)

with all this innovation the PS Vita will end up locked down with a crappy web browser just like the PS3 and PSP.

I'm still getting one at launch for Ridge Racer and the possibilty of CFW PS Vita :P

No, it was confirmed that PS vita is going to use a "web-kit" based browser (not NetFront like in PSP,PS3 & 3DS)

It's going to be as good as any current smartphone browser.

iPhone & iPad = phone & tablet. NOT GAMING EXPERIENCES!
PS Vita & 3DS = gaming.

Phone people ≠ Gaming people

PS Vita = Day One Buy
3DS = Still Waiting On Second Model.

"We do not want ports for the Vita, no one really does, but it will probably be the way that it goes"

Well, I would love Vita ports of Valkyria Chronicles 3 and Final Fantasy Type Zero (both of which will never be released outside of Japan otherwise). I would also love ports of older games such as a .hack collection or a crash bandicoot collection. People do like ports when they are done correctly. Iphone ports are bad because Iphone games suck, not because ports are bad as a concept.

Hopefully I would be getting this as a day one purchase especially if it comes with a good bundle. I really hope the PS Vita never suffers from piracy!

From the video, "...there's almost nothing that didn't make it in."

I can think of a couple things:
* HDMI out (just about every recent high-end Android phone has this...)
* Support for MicroSD (up to 2GB), MicroSDHC (up to 32GB), and MicroSDXC (up to 1TB) memory cards (Yeah, it's a Sony product, have to use a proprietary memory card for the nickel and dimeing of the customer)

That said, this is definitely a day one (and the biggest (32GB?) memory card available) purchase for me.

# touch panel will always be a gimmicklolololll 2011-10-28 13:16
It will never change, its not meant to be for serious gaming, theres no feel when you touch it, playing on phones is irritating experience. We got used to physical gamepads/controllers and its too late to change that, besides i hate when im missing buttons on touch panel and that happens a lot cause im pretending to push something thats not there.

I don't normally buy consoles/handhelds when they first come out, but good god, this looks simply amazing, I MUST have it when it comes out! ..and I hope at some point someone discovers an exploit to it so I can play homebrew/backups like my good ol' psp :)
