Want To Try A Vita At GameStop? Phone First…

It was reported during the week that GameStop stores were getting demo Vita units in, and sure enough people around the US have been having some Vita fun. That being said, some stores won’t let you play unless you've already got it pre-ordered.

Stupid, I know. But as idiotic as it may be, you should nonetheless call up in advance if you live far from a GameStop and are planning on playing the console. Apparently it’s ‘per district manager;, so it varies from location to location.

I can’t see the point in this for the consumer. Surely more people are likely to pre-order if they get to try it first, as opposed to it being held in the air above them, only reachable after a pre-order?

It makes it look as if they have something to hide, whereas if they just let you pick it up and have a go, you can see for yourself how amazing it is.

Marketing techniques continue to baffle me these days, and I nearly have a seizure when watching television adverts.

Back to my internet cave it is…

It is completely up to the district manager as to whether or not the demo units are playable. If you are in a bad neighborhood then the demo unit is most likely enclosed in a case and is not playable. Store that are hurting for pre-orders may be using the method mentioned above to get some extra pre-orders. It is all completely random and depends where you live.

I was in a Gamestop today. They had a vita demo unit. Unfortunately it was locked up. They said they've been having problems with it since they got it. They probably got a bad unit. Anyway, seeing it was enough to be impressed. The screen just looks a whole lot bigger and even though it was secured with their security cover and hanging by a cord, it felt extremely light and very comfortable in my hands. The indented rubber grip on the back seems to help more then you think it should.
