So it's finally come to version 1.66 and it's available to download. So go on and open the extra tab, start downloading and then come back here and read what's in it. We're just text on a screen, we can wait.
Sony has noted some of the new features that will be included in the update and you can read them below and be in awe of what Sony has done to your precious handheld now.
[Notification Alert] setting added to Settings > [Sound & Display]
[After 10 Minutes] option added to Settings > [Power Save Settings]
An arrow icon is introduced to show when PS Vita finds new activities in LiveArea.
The Caps Lock icon in the On-Screen Keyboard can now be fixed to allow a continuous string of upper case text.
The [System Music] setting in Settings > [Sound & Display] now affects BGM in PS Store, near and Sign-Up screens as well as the Home menu.
When searching for location data, users now have the option to ‘Retry’ and ‘Cancel’ when a failure occurs.
A progress bar is introduced for application installation.
A direct link to PlayStation Store is made available for new applications that users may discover on near.
Users can now update data at any time within near, provided they are within the same location.
The display time of notification alerts has been reduced from 5 seconds to 3 seconds.
Functional improvements have been made in the following games and applications: Unit 13, Gravity Daze, near.
You know how to update by now right? Well, you can either go to the Playstation Vita website or you go into System Settings on your Vita and do the update. That being said, I don't doubt some hackers are already working on a new firmware update, themselves.

Don't count on it, not until Sony gets over their fear of the Vita becoming hacked. Although the Vita is clearly capable of up to date Flash, complete Java support, and HTML5, Sony has left these out because it would leave way to many security holes open. These security holes would make it much more likely that the Vita would see Custom Firmware created and games pirated, and would introduce the possibility of viruses. Customers, Sony will not fulfill their promises of fixing your web browser unless they decide to either get over their fears, or at least try to make everything as secure as possible, which is likely to take a LONG time, but is also unlikely... the PSP and PS3 has still never seen a very capable web browser because of these reasons.
This is something that the word definitely needs to be spread on. Why? Because the sooner Sony realizes that all of you paying customers are feeling jipped on the $250-300 that you spent on an current generation and top of the line handheld, the sooner we will start seeing them do something about these clearly sub par web browsers.
SAY something. Spread the word. Don't let Sony cut corners on product quality just because they are afraid of some hackers. The Vita and even the PS3 is 100% capable of running a web browser experience that can rival that of a desktop computer's internet browser.
Qj, I definitely hope to see you guys make an article of this issue. If you guys need some sources I will provide them. Just PM me at lan.st (where we've done a lot of the PSP hacking that you now enjoy). My user name is SymphoniC, I'm a moderator there. I might even ask wololo to post a blog about this on his web site.

They should have at least made an app for youtube support like they did for android phones without flash support. They can create a very secure app for youtube so easily but they just leave us with as they call it "The most powerfull feature rich handeld ever created" but leave us without even basic use of youtube or flash. Why the truth is Sony are so scared people will watch free content that they won't get paid for. They want everyone to pay for everything they want and cheat us out of basic features that even cheap hardware can do without problems. Hell I would have even paid for a Youtube app if they made one.
Sony suck so much and wonder why they fail at being number one.

So what is being said is something that truly needs to take to heart. We are getting jipped out of upgrades due to Sony's fear of having their system hacked. Don't believe me, but at least pay attention to what SymphoniC posted.

Thanks for false selling me crap again!
Just like the 52" bravia tv you said would be 3D compatible with a firmware update that never came and my ps3 that you stripped the other OS out of. Arrrrrrg.

They were even saying that was a reason for the dual analog sticks. So they cheated me again, but they did exactly the same over the 52" £2,500 bravia tv I went to purchase two years ago, they insisted it would be 3D compatible with a firmware update. That never came either + they lied and told me it was 200hz refresh rate but in reality it was just 50hz when they delivered it which proved in itself it would never be 3D capable (even though they still insisted it would).
They just treat their customers as fools. I have been lied to several times by sony customer support now and its just not on at all.
Sony are just creating an anger base now insted of a fan base. They really need to sort out what they are doing to their customers.

lol seriously, y the fuck would anybody buy a vita for the web browser? we have internet on our phones and computers, the fuck do we need it on a vita for? its a nice addition, but it isn't enough to "feel" jipped that i payed $300 to go on the internet on a subpar browser when i can already do that, i thought the point of handheld consoles where for the games, guess i was wrong
the hardware alone is enough to justify $250, i don't need a browser to make my $250 seem worth it
