Sony Updates PS Vita Data Plan Pricing

The PS Vita is closer to a western launch than it’s ever been, and as the release grows closer, details continue to emerge. A couple of weeks ago, AT&T offered up information on its available data plans for the 3G version of the device, which looked something like this: $15 per month for 250MB, or $25 per month for 2GB. As of today, those numbers seem to be slightly off.

Sony’s official PS Vita website modifies the announced rates, with the low-end plan sticking at $15/250MB, but the high-end plan changing to $30/3GB. If you’re bad at math (like me), the bigger plan is now $5 more expensive and provides an extra gigabyte of data usage per month. It’s worth noting that Vita’s 3G service will be provided exclusively by AT&T – if you want to take advantage of the 3G’s connectivity options, you’ll have to sign onto one of the aforementioned data plans.

PS Vita hits shelves in the States and Europe on February 22nd.

Are you planning on picking up a 3G Vita? What do you think of the data pricing?

You should probably update your title to include ATT seeing as how it was ATT that changed their plans. Sony doesn't really have a choice.

This is just a complete waste of money and it seems to be aimed at morons. $180/$360 a year just to use a spotty service with extreme limitations? You may was well add data to a smartphone and tether the vita to it (even if you have to jailbreak the phone to do it) and save your money. I guess some people have money to waste.

I would love to get a 3G Vita for the GPS but I don't think I have enough for the 3G. If I get the Wi-Fi only one, I would have enough money to buy other stuff for it. 3G= not much anymore....sooo I need helps?

I think AT&T knows you have to be a complete dumb shit to sign up for a 3G plan on Vita so they planning to rip off those inevitable dumb shits even more just to get at least some money out of this deal, And i mean 3G on a tablet is useful because you not limited but on this thing it is completely useless.

Has anyone thought if Sony's actually breaking the law by locking you into 1 3G service provider after your contract or warranty runs out? I mean iPhone JailBreaking was made legal partly because Apple tried to do exactly the same thing, so does anyone know if Sony's T&Cs say you can't unlock?

I think the iPhone thing was about not being able to use the phone without service. The Vita runs perfectly fine without 3G service.

I don't know if it's a law forcing them or they just doing it out of goodness but every network provider in UK lets you unlock your phone when your contract ends, but I've got a feeling Sony's not gonna provide unlock codes for Vita, i mean maybe eventually if Vita has enough games worth playing i can get an extra sim and get 2gb data for £5 or probably even less by then, but you can almost guarantee they'll never unlock it because that would be like Sony admitting they were wrong about something and Sony is just too arrogant to ever admit that.
