Sony Promises that Devs Like the Vita

Sony is reeling after one game creator suggested that third party developers have canceled their Vita projects and moved to the 3DS due to the handheld’s poor performance in Japan. A report in a Japanese newspaper carried the anonymous quote, which stated, “Major Japanese companies are cancelling all projects intended for Vita and are changing development to 3DS.” Sony wants you to know that this simply isn’t the case.

Scott Rohde, the senior vice president of Worldwide Studios said that while he didn’t see the specific quote, it’s not unusual to find “exaggerated” claims like that regarding untested products. He also noted that he knew of many third party devs working “feverishly” on Vita titles, and that it would be impossible for any one person to definitively say what every Vita studio may or may not be doing.

Edge magazine points out that calling the claims an “exaggeration” indicates that a few studios have indeed jumped ship, just not to the numbers the anonymous source stated. Whatever’s going on over in Japan, you can bet it will echo through the western marketplace.

Vita is just a few short days away from release and if the western launch isn’t strong, the device could be relegated to Virtual Boy territory. Right now, the Vita is being outsold by the 3DS and even the original PSP in Japan – not a good indicator of success. Sony isn’t known for being upfront with its customers, so the truth of the matter is probably somewhere between the two quotes.

We’ll just have to wait and see what happens. What do you think the fate of the Vita will be?

First their needs to be some innovation and new sites to see and explore to make GOW good again. Only thing really new to the plate in GOW 3 was Hd graphics, which has been around so long now that it was not much of a new innovation to the series adding Hd graphics.

I'm getting bored of Sony giving basically the same 2 statements to every criticism they hear, it's always along the lines of saying we not worried because it's all still on track for our predictions, or we don't comment on issues regarding this.

See the thing is it seems like a good piece of kit and i'd like it to succeed, but realistically it has a huge list of things going against it and that list gets bigger everyday, and the problem is i'm absolutely confident that it's gonna end up just like Psp and only get the occasional decent game because developers don't see the point in flogging a dead Horse, so there's no chance i'm gonna risk wasting £230 when really for me graphics aren't that important so it really isn't worth paying much more than the Psp which is over £100 less.

None "wants" it fails..is Sony's arrogance on its statements that turns people down, bad marketing, game line-up..etcetc that turns people down..:-(
I for onw, want a Vita, but look at the line-up right no ( it sucks for me )... they concentrate too much on a fraction of the market, and impose that as a the "only" true..
Then you need extra media to play your games, and you create confusion releasing 3G and Non 3G models...
on top of that youc reate all that "we are social we are social we are social"...damn, .. :-?

And this is where Sony needs to lead the game development with first party software that promotes the PSV.

But no, with the exception of ninja gaiden and disgaea 3, nothing really attracta me at this point.

I think that blog editors should realize that Vitas success is good for the industry as well as their jobs. Bloggers better get used to writing about cheap iPhone and iPad games if they don't do the vita justice.
It's a great system. It doesn't cost 2400 dollars like an entry iPhone does. It's 250.00-300.00 up front which leaves me with 2100-2150 to spend on quality titles. IMO; the happy medium is 29.99 for ps vita games. That would put one on pace for approx 80 quality games in 2 years time compared to the initial price of an iPhone with a monthly contract. The iPod touch and iPad, different story, but there aren't any games out on iOS or android platform that are the quality of uncharted on the vita. GTA Is impressive but the touch control drifts.
God of war, Metal Gesr, Twisted Metal and Battlefront 3 would be solid titles. Simple iOS type games like angry birds etc at the same price as ios and android counterparts is also key.
Hope Sony and the bloggers don't mess it up!

Dude when you saw that $2400 iPhone did you notice it was a bit more Goldy and Diamondy than normal? because you must have been standing in a Jewellers or something, and just remember you can get 80 iPhone games for the price of 1 Vita game, and 1 reason the Vita isn't gonna succeed is because Sony said theirself their target audience is 20 something gamers playing about 8 hours a week, but most of those people now spend those hours on a Smartphone.

I don't know, if you factor in the 2 year contract that they slap you with.

He is technically right to say that the total cost is about 2k.

Sorry but no. In the UK the Vita will cost £230 with no contract to sign and the 16gb iPhone 4 is about £450 sim free so you have to compare like for like, i mean it's like saying if i sell my 6 year old Ford Mondeo i can charge at least an extra £10k because that's how much i spent on fuel, tax, test, repairs and all the other Crap i spent over the years.

I have a ps vita & I love it..All im actually waiting for now are more & more great games to hold me over. All those who hold back on getting one until the price drops are missing out and just picky & stuck up gamers...When the 3ds(which I also have )was supposedly failing and was forced to drop the price due to low sales sony people wondered if sony would do the same with the Vita, but sony stated that the system was far more superior than just 3d and that the price would stay the same as its worth the buck.Back then nobody complained about it and told sony to drop the price but now everyones complaining about prices of memory cards, games etc.Trust me when you own one and get to fiddling around with it a little you will totally fall involve with it.Its basically what the psp should have been with everything the psp had and more.Built in mic, cameras, big ger screen, close to hd graphics, touch screen(front & back, what more could you want rom a sony handheld.Plus, all sony has to do is release updates for things like 3d(glasses needed & the features & apps will start rolling in pretty soon.
