Sony: No Vita Price Cut for 2012 |

Waiting patiently for the inevitable PS Vita price cut? Better pack yourself a few lunches—Sony isn’t planning on adjusting the device’s price point any time soon. In an interview with Eurogamer, Sony Worldwide’s Shuhei Yoshida confirmed that Vita’s price would remain stable through 2012.

Yoshida did note that Sony is looking for ways to reduce manufacturing costs, but that “It’s too early” to lower prices at the moment. Yoshida also mentioned Sony’s other Vita-moving strategy: Handsomely priced bundles with games people want to play:
“At a certain point in the future we would like to address the pricing issue for some of the people who are waiting. But this year we are trying to add value by creating different types of bundles. We announced we will provide LittleBigPlanet PS Vita bundle pack. That's affordable for people who are looking for a good deal.”
In the interview, Yoshida did lament the Vita’s lack of compelling software and blamed the device’s poor sales primarily on a lack of good games. According to Yoshida, bringing more and better software to Vita is the company’s number one priority:
“We have to continue to work on bringing more content from big titles people are looking for in terms of franchises, to very small, snack-sized, intuitive casual games on the digital distribution side.”
If you’re a fan of the Sony brand or someone that owns (or is considering owning) a Vita, the full interview is worth a look.

Seems like Sony is banking on that free cross-play thing they announced a few days ago to persuade PS3 owners to buy a Vita. Personally, I don't believe getting a free Vita copy of a PS3 game they were going to get anyway is going to entice them to drop $250 on one, what needs to be dropped is the price.

expect to see something like this when they can. http://tailslol0.deviantart.com/#/d5ba049

As for the cost of the 3DS, actually, Nintendo is now taking a LOSS on the things, as they are selling them below cost. The features or power of a system hardly matters next to it's software lineup and support, this has been proven countless times in the history of gaming.

When I buy a gaming device I plan to play great games regardless of the graphics, and Vita is missing a lot.
Sony needs to get their shit in order.

The fact is that people were expecting the Vita to be really expensive. When Sony announced that the WiFi model would RRP for the same price as the 3DS, this was met with joy from gamers and the gaming media (do a Google search and see for yourself).
Nintendo had no choice but to drastically slash the price of the 3DS because people were starting to compare the specs of the two handhelds and people were asking why the 3DS (which contains very little high end technology when compared to the Vita) is costing so much.
Now as Nintendo slashed the price of the 3DS, people expect Sony to do the same when it isn't necessary. If you can't afford it, save up until you can or buy a cheaper alternative. Gaming is a luxury not a right.
People also forget/ignore that Nintendo have dominated the handheld gaming platform for 32 years and Sony are the only company who have ever posed a serious challenge.

Nintendo 3DS: 19.14 million units sold
PSP: 74.94 million units sold
PS Vita: 2.62 million units sold
Competition? Maybe. Serious competition? I would disagree.

are you thinking or what?
apple sold less units than samsung this quarter (and the gap is quite large by the way), but still apple got more profits than samsung did.
and yes it still is competition, anyone who eats part of your market share is competition.

will you sell something at a loss?
no sane person would start a business to sell something below cost.

But seriously, just throw in a decent memory card and you got a deal, how bad can it be to have storage to BUY games for it. Even if they give you a free game without a memory card, you can't play it!!!

but I already own the 3G system with a 32Gb card in anticipation for firmware 1.8... and 80% of the games out already with 9 more on pre-order... I assume its trivial to say I love my vita...
people need to stop crying over software too... Gravity Rush, Mortal Kombat, Hot Shots, Katamari, Disgaea, Lumines, Ninja Gaiden, Dynasty Warriors, Mutant Blobs Attack, Stardust, Sound shapes, even Treasures of Montezuma are all GREAT games...plus others but this is already a wall of text and possibly a "cool story bro"... :)

Did I fix it?!
