Sony fixing what was wrong in PSP with Vita |
Listed in: News Tags: news, Sony

When the PSP launched, one of its most lauded characteristics was its great graphics. Sony Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida recently said that although that was a good thing, it made Sony lose sight of another characteristic that makes for a good handheld gaming system, most specifically the controls.
"We were very happy with having something very close to the PS2 experience in a portable format with the PSP," he told GI.biz, "but we didn't do a good enough job creating the proper interface to really play games with graphics in 3D. The lack of a right analog stick, for example. That's something we wanted to attack with the PS Vita because we wanted to enhance the portable core gaming experience and we have to do it right."
Yoshida further added, "Just having great graphics on a pretty screen wouldn't have been enough. That's why we spent so much time innovating with user interface devices like the touch pad or camera and motion sensors."
Despite all the new additions and features, Sony has stated that the Vita is their "easiest and most well supported" platform so far.

FUCK YOU SONY!
Hopefully you will get hacked another time for your stupidity!

PSP lacked the right analog stick. "Fixing what was wrong" meant adding the right analog stick to the Vita.
It was common knowledge since details of the NGP first came out, but I wouldn't expect you to know that SINCE YOU CAN'T FUCKING READ.

I didn't know anyone that wanted a 3DS. I know a lot of people who want a PSV. I would consider that a better thing for a company, right?

ie: TV out, UMD, the ability to use a PS3 controller, using a standard memory card format instead of a system-specific one, built in flash memory, removable battery

the PSV still uses memry sticks. it's the games that come on a special flash format. which replaces UMD. that is a GOOD thing! it gives you a lot more battery life!
the removable battery thing does suck though. but, that's because of the rear touchpad...

No, it doesnt. We've seen them. They are a new PSV-only format

with the psp they could've add the browser from the first version, but they needed to have a reason to bring inportant updates to close security holes.
so with the psv many features will be locked in the begining. this is how things work today: we send the product out on the market, hackers exploit it and reveal security holes that we missed, then we fix them with updates and lure people with "new" features.
and when the holes are hardware dependent and can't be fixed with software anymore, we bring in new hardware revisions. like the new psv slim, which now features tv-out and a brighter display, yey

By stimulating the touch pad. I see a lot of people getting gammy hands if the game developers don't get it right.

and the 4 button dpad was terrible since its inception.. how do u continue to use that control until now? the wrong beta testers, and managers are at these meetings.. more than half of the psp games i dont even bother to play because of these 2 BIG flaws.

Good games were few and far between, piracy somewhat scared away developers, and the Go was ultimately a failure, coupled with lack of advertising on Sony's part. A second stick was all I really wanted, but the Vita holds far more promise than it's past generation. My 3DS is lonely and needs a charging buddy for the night. :)

i really get attached with my handhelds, and while i'm on a psp3004, i still have my nonworking psp1000 in the box of the 3004. i just can't toss it away, that little fat guy was my faithfull companion for hours and hours, and it never complained about anything! untill one day, when...

sony will probably make new statements in those legal issues and agreements with the end-user. that along making sure moding the console results in a permanent brick untill you take it to a service and fix it for half the price of a new console

Now excuse me while I solve the Continuity puzzles on my iPhone ;)

second is just the new controls for it like the rear touchpad, touchscreen and the long-awaited right analog stick.
it should beat 3DS in graphics and controls, i'm not sure about the sales.
i don't care if this will be hacked or not right away, i'll still buy this and at least one game and i'll choose the best game when its available.

If it was made by Micro$oft then it would be better. Even if it was a Nintendo or Apple product it will be better but as its a $ony product it will suck.
When it can play backups is when I THINK about getting one. I'm not even going to bother till then.

That is a huge innovation. I cannot fathom any other handheld gaming device having any of those three things. Once again, Sony never fails to innovate.

I think you all of you would still find something to complain about.

The rear touch pad is a great add on also. Its going to do great. I just hope Sony won't lose sight of the PSVita and focus on their next project.

The DS didn't have 2 analogue sticks and it wasn't lambasted for it. Monster Hunter showed that with the right games and support the PSP could kick Nintendo's dual-screen ass, but they only caught on 3 years after launch when the system was already dead in Europe.
If it weren't for imports I would have binned my PSP long ago, but thanks to some simply stunning games (which are just fine with the current controls) it's by far my most used console. I hope Sony really support the Vita, because frankly it looks incredible.

but straight up, PSP was a good piece of hardware, but with one main flaw:
They wanted to have a PS2/Xbox/mainstream console in your hands. Straight up, even the fanboys were like "omg, i'm gonna have a PS2 in my hands." Thats the biggest mistake when trying to make a handheld in these times.
Don't be idiots and listen to the fans who don't know shit about this business. Don't try to make a "handheld ps3". Have the potential to make it a mini PS3, but focus more on "handheld games". Less focus on Uncharted and God of war, and more on games like what they had on DS. Look at the DS and the simple (yet super fun) games. Look at the Apple App store and see how a simple game like angry birds (yet I hate this game) can make money.
Have the potential to make powerful games like Call of Duty/Uncharted/etc but don't have that as a priority.
Don't worry too much about making a "handheld PS3". Have that feature there, but worry about the support and the games!

What? That sucks. Hopefully it get's rooted quickly, and someone releases a dual boot so we can get all those Android apps on the device. What a waste, though. It is running a version of Android, isn't it?

If the Americans weren't that stupid and buy all those crappy Sony-consoles Sony would stop their idiocy and start doing good work once again like with the PS1 and PS2,we don't need another handheld that is inferior to the DS and 3 DS in everything but machine power (and still inferior to OS-consoles like the Pandora)
and collect our data just to give them out to some hackers... no thanks!
