Plans to support Sony's next generation portable all the way.

"We had Virtua Tennis World Tour on PSP when it first came out," recalls Sega West CEO Mike Hayes in an interview with industry Gamers. "It was one of the biggest 3rd party sellers - obviously bigger in Europe than it will be in the States, but we’ve managed to use a lot of the functionality of Vita. And we’ve made it very clear we’re going to support Sony with that title. ... It’s interesting on Vita - technically it’s brilliant, it’s beautiful, and it’s really great to play. And Sony has made it very clear they want to target core gamers primarily. So we take that on board with the titles that we’re going to bring out," he said.

"The nice thing about the Vita, I think, is ultimately going to be the range of software pricing types that you can put on it so it’s not just the high end game at the high end price," he added. "You can do the mid-point, more like your XBLA or PSN titles and of course maybe even a small bite size of more app type software. For me, the strength of that device is the whole spectrum of software, that will either sell as physical or as digital. That, I think, is a big point of difference for us as a developer. So that’s pretty cool."

The first Sega title that will be heading to Sony's new handheld platform will be Virtua Tennis 4. Sony is expected to reveal concrete details about Vita's release date at next month's  Tokyo Game Show, though Kaz Hirai already mentioned last week that it won't hit the West in 2011.

Oh, cool. See, now 3DS fanboys can't say, "I would never want PS3 games on the go. I wouldn't want epic novel-like games in bite sized pieces. I don't want a portable PS3."
Yes, that is something I actually heard someone say....

Haters gonna hate, such little kids. Sega have it right. I'm not a fanboy and I think the 3ds is pretty awesome, but I'll be getting a Vita at launch... Though for argument's sake it's not like Nintendo fanboys could ever insult another brand of console for having a stupid name..

*Sigh* Sega, some mediocre titles here and there, after that a shower of crappy Sonic titles.

Just bring over Black Panther, VC3 and Infinity already....

YES!! SONIC Generations is the title i am expecting to play on portable (the full featured PS3 game, not the cheap 3DS version)
IF SEGA RELEASES THIS TITLE FOR VITA, I WILL ABSOLUTELY BUY, AND I THINK IT WOULD BE A SUCESS, BECAUSE THERE ARE NO PLATTFORMER GAMES ON VITA YET!

OK to be clear i like both the 3ds and Vita but on the first comment. About not liking epic ps3 titles on the go yeah it sounds like a good idea on paper but when you are actually moving around walking, etc. You'd rather have a epic long game you probably won't be able to pick and play for short periods of time or bite sized game(angry bird-like) that when not busy u can play and put down easily

I think this is where sony has it wrong they want a console experience on a handheld when the market is flooded with bite sized games from the IOS guess which platform is gaining more acceptance in the eyes of the consumer? especially when the games are around a buck each and Vita and 3ds are $40 i know the experiences on the handhelds can't compare to the ones on the IOS lenght wise but people want accesibility not lenghty adventures it seems

See there's the difference between Nintendo & Sony, Nintendo make crap consoles but are excellent at running things so they do things on one would ever expect from mediocre hardware, but Sony does excellent hardware but constantly does a crappy job so you left with consoles that reach nowhere near their potential, so Vita being technically brilliant means fuck all if for Sony it's just business as usual when you got stuff like Psp with customers begging Sony for basic new features that could massively improve it but they just gave up.

Sega are the last people in the world in a position to be passing judgement on gaming devices.
