PSP UMD’s not getting into your Vita

If you’re one of the ever shrinking crowd of proud legitimate owners of a library of PSP UMD’s, the Vita is mercilessly kicking you to the curb if you’re living in the US, as the UMD Passport Program that allows PSP owners in Japan get their UMD’s registered to their device and then purchasable as a download at a discounted price WON’T be making its way to the US.

So if you want to play your old PSP games on the Vita, you’ll have to wait for them to his the Playstation Store before downloading them at full price. The discounts range from getting a game as low as 6$ all the way up to $30. Sounds like a money racket to me, but with Sony taking some major losses in the industry in recent times, it probably seems none other than natural to them.

Bottom line is, you may still want to cling onto that old PSP if you want to play those old greats without paying to download them all again.

Or wait for it to be hacked so you can format shift your disc to an iso and play it.
Sony really don't get that they keep giving hackers legitimate reasons to hack their consoles.

If only there was a middle man between sony and us hackers that could relay to them the things we do and dont want and will and wont pay for...I will say that regardless of what everybody else thought of the pspgo,I actually really liked it and didnt hack it until Square Enix decided not to put kingdom hearts:BBS on the ps network..Hacking it was my protest so I could play the game. When I bought the 1st psp I also only hacked it to play sega & snes games on it..If sony doesn't do some things fast especially with the remote play feature which has already been hacked into than they are going to loose so much more fans & money...Just give us what we want and we will be glad to invest our money into your products.

Of the six original UMD games I own, 5 are Metal Gear episodes. I think I'll survive this incident.

# Still have my PSPRichard 2012-02-08 21:12
I have several PSP's (don't ask, mostly experiments).

Not bothered about this I got a PSP Go not long ago, and love it never enjoyed the UMDs. I tried giving them to my little sister, they didn't last a week. Got them back and they're ruined beyond repair. Just like the PSP I gave her for Christmas.

So this doesn't really bother me, I never really got into UMDs in the first place. The only thing that I want to know is: Will someone allow for the play of Homebrew, that's where the fun is. PSPFiler has changed over the years but it's still a great piece of homebrew.

Homebrew all the way & Disgaea.

Remember the PSOne days when Sony actively looked for homebrew by releasing the Net Yaroze development environment? I remember the demo discs with Net Yaroze games, I wish they would do the same for their current consoles.

I don't get it how this is a bad thing. If you want to play your UMDs just use the PSP. I have 10 originals, but i don't give a shifh if they can be transferred to vita or not. I'll buy vita for future games of one developer only, and that is Rockstar Games, plus the internet features.

Wait for em to hack it, then you can legally download your UMD titles to your PS Vita. This is how they make the christian custom movies. They buy an original for every edited copy they sell.
