PS Vita: Sony Needs A Helping Hand

With less than 2 million units sold in the disastrous second quarter Sony is having quite a time finding third party software companies to develop more video games for the PS Vita.

handbig

Shuhei Yoshida, Sony’s Worldwide Studios president went on record about the extreme difficulty the company is facing.  Yoshida stated, “We will talk to development communities and publishing partners and tell them why Vita can provide a great experience for the IPs they have.”

Sony is banking on the impending release of Assassin’s Creed for the PS Vita to help sway the argument in their favor.

And while publishers may have an easier time developing games for the PS Vita compared to the PS3, the uncertainty for developing games for the Vita lies in its lackluster sales.  Sony has gone on record with 1.2 million PS Vita units being in retail stores since February 28th to go along with 2 million game copies.

While Sony continues to seek support from game publishers they are forecasting on the cautious side with portable game sales excepted to be 12 million by year’s end as opposed to the previous estimate of 16 million.

PS Vita is not doing well? This is a bummer, this portable device is amazing.

As things look a PS Vita Slim might not be coming out or it'll take longer.

Sony needs to team up with Capcom and get a Monster Hunter on the Vita before it's too late.

Nah, not Pokemon... They need to revive the older style digimon games, even an HD collection of the old games themselves. Or they could hurry up and make PS2 classics for it. With the recent Kingdom Hearts game that just came out (great game, by the way), they could do well with putting KH1, RE:COM and KH2 onto there.

Well, they just released Digimon Re-Digitize in Japan. So, maybe they need to port it into English. I've always thought that Nintendo had Pokemon, while other have Digimon.

:-| Seriously dude. Digimon sucks compared to Pokemon. A pokemon for Vita would be a little weird, but would also be great for sales since Pokemon fans would go crazy for it. It'll have much better graphics than the 3DS version, that's enough reason for me to play new pokemon games on Vita instead of 3DS. Imagine all the new features it could have now cause of the front and rear touch screen.

Mate, the thing you've gotta remember about Pokemon is that it's a first party title. Ninty will NEVER allow that game to appear on a Sony platform.

Hello!!!
GearBox has stated they would love to bring Borderlands to the vita!Sony needs to get their lazy asses up and work with these companies to make it happen!

gearbox says they don't have the time and resource to develop the game themselves, so why are you blaming Sony? Gearbox just wants to license the franchise for profit reasons...

Monster Hunter, then sales will go. I seriously don't understand why it wasn't at Launch. PSP sales skyrocketed when Monster Hunter was released. Then Skyrocketed again when Monster Hunter 2 got released. And Skyrocketed even more when even Monster Hunter Freedom Unite was released.

they had it coming! --with so many lies and promises. i tell you, i have ps3, and ps vita, and they are picking up dust, specially the vita, because there are NOT any good games at all for vita, and we don't even have ps1 compatibility yet... (scoffs) when sony LEARNS to do things right, then maybe... --if only there were titles like resident evil, castlevania, kingdom hearts, final fantasy, you know big games, then the ps vita would rise, but not until then. right now there's no difference in a broom an a ps vita, they both collect dust. AND THAT MAKES ME SO MAD I WANT TO KILL!

My vita has been collecting dust ever since bought it when it came out.

there are no worthwhile games on it and for the ones that they have its already on the ps3 so there's no point it getting it for the vita since i can get that

the only games that interest me are p4 golden and soul sacrifice

there actually are alot of games i'm interested in playing but they're mostly VN in japanese with almost no chance of being localized.

perhaps someone at sony or a publisher will take a chance and translate a VN like steins;gate... yeah unlikely

till then i'm hoping it gets hacked and someone translates some VN for it, i know this is much more likely than the former happening

And on the US and European side of things, the could do with getting BioShock, Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, etc. out of the blocks.

they're surprised about this? for one, it has no built-in memory and you have to buy one of the insanely overpriced memory cards, and then the cost of $250 which is just stupid for a handheld

Bring it down to $199 at most, include at least an 8 gig memory card and a decent game, then I'll buy it. Until then, $ony will continue to die

No, no it doesn't. Not unless you buy an overpriced garbage deal from somewhere like Argos.

You can't call someone a jackass when they speak the truth. The Vita comes with NOTHING, all accessories and games are bought separately or as part of a bundle.

# the vita will not sell as the PSP did because is nothing that new and inovative, a psp in steroids with less fun games and OVERLY PRICELY/DON'T TOUCH IT IS OUR (SONY) EVEN IF YOU BOUGHT IT!fr33 2012-08-12 16:29
I knew buying one when came out wasn't a good idea, there's no much of innovation in it, except for all the tetchy stuff, but is fat, and I know PSP 1000 is fat because being the first model, but I bet there's better and cheaper ways to make models thinner and awesome as is, also bring it down like below or less than a PS3, because the PS3 is a console and this is a portable, more limited in a lot, regardless if it has all that power and beats any other portable device, but still with no fun games and high expensive prices and no exclusives and no backward compatibility, Sony always being greedy and making it harder for their fans/gamers, when a more suitable price, slimmer model, better games and backward compatibility comes, then may be I will get one, still waiting for it to get cfw/fully hack for home brew testing on vita system/mobo, not emulated psp. I was thinking getting the OUYA, I know is android chipset/tegra3 on it, but is way cheaper than any other tablet with nVidia Tegra3 GPU, which is one of the best for mobile graphics, plus they suppport the dev community and also the gamers one too, even indies, you can even open up the cube and you won't get guarantee void or lawsuit, you can even root it, but the kickStarter is over and now it cost 130, still cool :)

Thanks :)

I got a Vita a couple of months back and have played it practically every day. Hot Shots Golf is awesome as always and Uncharted is amazing as well. I haven't tried Escape Plan yet, but its on my to do list. I still haven't gotten my free game, but I should probably get on that before the offer expires...

Once LBP, AC,and CoD hit this fall, people will buy these up like crazy. Its still early in its life cycle as it hasn't even been out a year yet.

Now if someone would just release a UMD drive add-on for it...

Even Sony doubts the Vita's future. They're not letting their best developers(Sant aMonica and ND) to make games for it.

So how in the world can they convince 3rd parties to support it when even they won't fully support it?

I think it'll be cool to have an app store like google play or something. I'll download temple run, n64 emulator, or sixaxis controller app. This is just an opinion so don't be hating
