I remember the PSP’s launch. I remember being so excited reading about Liberty City Stories and Medievil in my hand. I wasn't so excited by the price though; the price of the console, the games or the memory sticks. Nonetheless I picked one up after the initial wave and never regretted it, but despite my joys I do recall feeling a slight ache at having departed with such money.

Well, perhaps I won’t feel that niggling in the back of my brain by the time I pick up a Vita, as Forbes’ Tero Kuittinen says that Sony is ‘in big trouble with PS Vita’. He outlines various issues he sees, and to be honest, you can already see Sony may need some backup plans to move things along, considering the launch week sales reported earlier were…well I don’t think I can say the right word here, but you know how they were. The 3DS eclipsed it.

In his article which is linked at the bottom of this article, he predicts that Sony may drop the price from 24,000 Yen down to 20,000 Yen. If this is so, I’m looking forward to what price I’ll see by the time it hits UK.

there's so many reasons why the psvita has had problems.

In my opinion, not making it backward compatible with psp was a big issue as its basicaly a psp2 whatever they want to call it.

Then asking people to pay to be able to play the games they owned on their psp on their vita is ludicrous. Its like saying, sorry we didnt make it backward compatible, but if you pay for it, it somewhat is

Then there's the price issue, sure the price console itself is relatively high, but if at that price, it came with a memory stick it would have passed, but no, you pay full price for the console, then full price for memory stick which are worth more than diamonds.

I could probably find a few more reason if i took the time to think about it but right now thats all i got on the top of my head

I don't see any problems other than:

1. Pay to play games you already own
2. Overpriced memory cards to save the games

And that's all, I can remember.

Pay for games you already own? I don't recall paying for a digital copy of the PSP game when I bought it? I also don't remember Sony telling me I have to throw away my physical copy, or telling me to stop playing with my original PSP!

If they did add a UMD drive to the Vita, it would have made it bigger than it already is, as well as add to the price which you are already complaining about.

True UMD is digital. Not only that but if you bought the game new, you purchased a license to use the game officially. So technically you have a right to have the game digitally added to your vita if Sony offers it for free since you already paid for a license. But it only applies if you bought it new not used and still have the original receipt.

Well i have one explanation, its a small country with only a certain amount of people on a island thats been through disaster, and the economy is unstable aswell.

While the rest of us are watching these peole downgrade the psp as its not even Out in Canada and the Usa.

They should be thankful they sold that many in japan alone.

I ahve Japanese friends, and is NOT htat bad..jsut slower, but doesn't affect budget for people that would be willing to buy it...It didn't stop sales for 3DS games, or FFC, or 3DS bundles...

Well, this is biased journalism if I've ever seen it. It's been pointed out in a comment that the PS Vita is only in JAPAN right now, which has been through a natural disaster, resulting in a economic disaster as well. It's very surprising on how many Vitas sold despite these issues.

The 3DS sales eclipsed it, really? Before a tragedy, and the fact Nintendo ALSO immediately slashed its price on the 3DS nearly by 50% only months after its release doesn't come to mind. There's still lack of games on the 3DS, as well as no physical compatibility for anything other than DS backwards compatibility. The Wii dropped Gamecube compatibility.

Jesus Christ with the biased agendas.

Wise? Definitely.
But the words Wise and Sony are like 2 opposing magnets and you can almost guarantee Sony will stubbornly hang on for far too long while blaming everyone and everything else if it isn't successful.

Jeez.... the Vita is announced and most peoples price speculations are at least $400... price is announced at $250 entry and everyone is surprised that it's that low. Getting close to release and people are bitching that it cost too much...

And REALLY? You people are worrying about the lack of backwards compatibility with UMD discs? suck it up and move on. If you don't want to pay for digital copies of your UMD games then how about you whip out your PSP and play em on that.

I am personally completely fine with a price point of $250 and the features that the psvita has. if sony lowered the price, great. if they don't, who cares. either way it doesn't affect my decision of purchasing one of these on release.

$199.99 USD sounds like a reasonable price.

If they want more money with better sales, make bundle packs whilst having the basic pack at $199.99.

The reason, if any, the PSV will not sell well here in the states, is because of articles like these. Many people who are interested in the system will read an article about how it isnt doing well and that a price drop is imminent... So they will hold off, affecting sales. Analysts need to go away...

Get a US release PSV for $250 (by whatever means necessary) and then you got 1 for 170 quid as the exchange rate flys...? LOGIC!!!!!

As for me I got one already from JP and am holding out on firmware 1.0 for a possible CFW - LOL.

And yes the price for the Hardware is OK, but not for the Mem cards.
Best to just get a 4gb for your savs (now) and then wait for the microsd adaptors (for PSV) to come out of CHINA this year for sure.

Just curious how many of you have already imported 1 from Japan? Because unless you speak Japanese you have to be a complete monumental dumb shit, because no English games until February and you'll always be stuck with a Japanese menu, so all you can do is brag that you've got one, and i know a load of people have done it so don't be shy.

You can change the language of a japanese PS Vita to English and it's also region free, so you can play games of any region on it. Idiotic fuckface who doesn't know shit.

250$ would be a good price if it came with a memory stick bundled. But you're gonna have to pay an extra 80-100$ for a good size stick.....i doubt it would have killed them to throw in a 4gig stick for that price
