PS Vita games will have no instruction manuals

Ó

I remember travelling far and wide many years ago (an hour drive to the nearest pebble beach in Brighton, UK) and getting a copy of an X-Men game for the Gameboy Color. Being enthralled by how I expected the trip to be, I had made a stern point of not bringing my Gameboy with me, and had decided to leave my Gameboy at home, instead packing suntan lotion (It remained unused).

Without any means to play the game, I spent 3 solid days in a warmer-than-outside hotel room reading the manual, which was about 6 pages long, and it kept me going,  something to look forward to when I got home. Game manuals are something that you never learn from until you need to, but reading them nonetheless reminds you of whatever new game you’ve just bought and look forward to playing.

That’s all gone now with the PS Vita as IT Media, a Japanese website, got their hands on a PS Vita package a day early (it releases tomorrow in Japan).

Vita game boxes are roughly the same size as a 3DS game box, but are going to be considerably lighter and easier to carry, as manuals are now non-existent. You’ll now be treated to a single page, explaining how to use the PS Vita’s game cards.

It may get repetitive after a while, but at least that’s something to read.

Are you miffed at the exclusion of a manual, or are you happy that you have less reason to keep game cases?

You don't Need a manual anymore. All the manual is always on your HUD, telling you what to do.

It was said some time ago that games would stop coming with manuals and instead they would either feature digitial versions with the game, or that the games would be more "intuitive" as to not need manuals at all.

Sucks though because I like opening a case to see more than just a disc or memory card inside. But it's all in a bid to become more eco-friendly.

eco-friendly is a small consideration - it's purely cost saving, with the "green" after effect sprinkled on.

Exactly, look at the size of that "Earth poisoning" plastic case, what a waste of space.. on the other hand you can recycle paper..
I am pretty sure the size of the case is due the fact they don't want to look like a 3DS / NDS cartridge ..and more like a "WOW is almost like a BD package"!!!!

Isn't Nintendo starting to do the same thing now with the 3DS seeing they have digital manuals. I'm pretty sure SM3DL didn't come with one.

Instruction manuals were always redundant. Why not just have the control scheme available to read in a help screen? No manual = room for more interesting things, such as posters or little slips of artwork.

they will save money by not having to print a manual - you think they will put somethign else in there instead? highly unlikely. the front will remain empty.

I haven't read an instruction manual in years. Though I do remember when renting N64 games from Blockbusters always insisting on a manual :P Anyone remember when they'd charge you more if you lost or wrecked it?

It's like buying a pirated DVD on a cheap casing without a booklet. =(

I like it when they come with cool pictures, ads of new games, or even a Map out of the game. Sometimes... awesome posters!

Gonna miss that.

i don't really need manuals just to play a game.

mostly, i just discover which controls to use and what are the contents of the game.

heck, iPhone/iPad games also doesn't have manuals for them and i just play it to know its controls and how good it plays.

well, for me manuals aren't that important. it won't even ruin your experience with the game.

most pirates would probably agree with me coz pirated games also don't have manuals.

Oh...is that so....

Then I look forward to playing my VITA Isoz. Since you don't get a manual with an Iso, and now you don't get manuals with the games....all the more reason!

The controls are not as good as psp, that's going to be a problem.

I favor in game manual over paper. It costs costs no matter how significantly, and I never read the manuals anyway. It doesn't help that most of todays manuals are getting shorter and tell you less and less, most manuals don't even tell you control schemes anymore. Instead I go to the controller settings to find controls but if I still need the manual it is accessible on the cartridge. Which means no carrying them separately, I never did but I never would either.

I'm not happy about this... but I can't say I'm super mad about it either. Personally. I don't use the manuals to learn controls or basics or what. Say you're at school and you got this really cool game the day before, well bring the manual to school to read will get you even more psyched than you already are to play the game. I like game manuals just to have them. So basically what was said above. I'm going to miss the manuals...
