PS Vita can act as a PS3 controller

Sony has revealed that its long awaited next-generation portable gaming system, the PlayStation Vita, can also be used as a PlayStation 3 controller.

ps-vita

"What could you do with all of this?" teased Sony Europe R&D manager Phil Rogers at the Develop Conference 2011. "Here's a few boring technical ideas: you could drive a display from a PS3 game, for example.

"PS3 can send data down to Vita and Vita can display it. You could use the unique features [of Vita] - gyroscope, touch front and back - as a control device for a PS3 game.

"You can run software on both devices and use the network to sync the game states. And that's pretty good, because you then have the processing power of PS3 doing that work, Vita [doing] fancy graphics - however you want to do it. You're not sacrificing the PS3's CPU to be able to have a rich experience on Vita."

Rogers added that this was "a fairly new idea", and they encourage other developers to talk to them if they have further suggestions for it. "Most of the time we'll be OK with it," he said. Sony recently claimed that PlayStation Vita will be the company’s "easiest and most well supported platform yet."

That said then there is a possible chance those ps3 games in the ps3 store can be downloadable to the psvita, since it can be used a ps3 controller, i see why not. All they need is resolution downgrade, patch maybe. Borderlands on the psvita anyone

Vice versa. Like many things people think Sony copied from Nintendo, Sony actually had the feature 6 years ago, see RemotePlay

Dont see how, I gave you no insults, merely data. If you found that offensive, you should stop commenting altogether. It's going to get much worse.

Frankly, that comment made you the dick.

Who would ever use these feature...?

I certainly wouldn't, especially as it hasn't got L2 and R2 Triggers which are needed in most PS3 games. :sigh:

Don't be sad buddy! Remember the Vita has 2 touch-screens which can easily be those triggers!

yeah sony had it first , and even before this looking at features i sure as hell wouldnt buy a 3ds id rather buy an NGP looking at the pricing standpoint now, more features , better game quality , and now better multiplayer. 3ds just fails to deliver that immersing console game feeling... and im sure sony will probably be selling NGP's at a loss lol maybe but sony loves us and they would do that rofl.

He's basically saying "PS3 and PSVita can do everything the Wii U can and more"

I think it's safe to say since:

1. None of the systems depend on each other in order to play the games, this is a feature and it's an optional one.

2. No processing power is sacrificed from either console, which is what happens with the Wii U since it has to stream the data to the controller and also that's why it'll be limited to one Wii U tablet per console, it's too much to stream. And that's not the case with the PS3-PSVita combo.

If they make updates for games so that you can use the PS Vita as the way the Nintendo Wii U will use it's controller, then that's it, Nintendo won't have anything "new" to offer (except you know, Nintendo stuff: pokemon, zelda, mario, etc... which I'm not saying it's not nice)

This is great! Now when my wife wants to kick me off my PS3, I'll just play some Castle Crashers, Shank, Hustle Kings, or some other game.

I'm not sure if they are going to allow us to use the Vita as a controller for EVERY game. It might be some games that don't put use to the L2/R2 (even though the Back-Touch could be used to emulate those triggers) just to stay on the safe side of things. But then again, you never know. Sony just keeps surprising us.

Definitely getting this System! I was thinking about waiting for a Slim Vita, but IDK... I WANT ONE NOW!

Expect a Vita/PS3 bundle near the release of the WiiU. With many of the 3rd party games launching on the WiiU also to be released for the PS3/Vita, with the specific feature of an interactive controller.
Trust me Pacther told me so

The psvita to me is what the psp should have been. Its basically the psp version of ps3 and If they do add a 3d feature (especially one that can convert non 3d games into decent 3d)They would most def take most of nintendo's fans.Aside from the ones with o.o.t and the new mario's coming out etc.If they add the 3d feature you could buy a 3d bluray moive, pop it in your ps3 and watch it via the vita if you dont own a 3d tv:)

Even before the Wii U is released, Sony is already planning to do better, even with the 5 year old PS3. Somehow I think the Wii U launch will not mimick the Wii's.
I wonder if the Wii U will offer any similar connectivity to the 3DS. Probably not.

I'm sure the launch will mimic the Wii's and 3DS's. But.... It'll mimic the 3DS a little too much.

You guys are forgetting one particular aspect that seperates the Vita from the Pee-U controller: Wifi

I have a ps3 and I was able to play certain games from the psn store remotely from a hot spot outside of my home. I don't think the Pee-U's controller can do that as its just a controller. With the Vita, you won't be limited to just playing games in your house. I plan on getting the Vita so I can play my ps3 games over the places I frequently visit which have wifi hotspots.

To who said "the 3DS fails"
What makes you think it fails it has more going for it than the PSV thats for sure...
