PS VIta: A Marathon Not a Sprint

The PlayStation Vita is a device that has in a lot of ways captured the interest of the gamer crowd. There's no denying that that amazing OLED screen and powerful hardware have lead to some pretty amazing portable feats, but there are a lot of  us that have chosen to pass on the device simply because of price. Currently at $249 for the cheapest version, Sony execs have recently said that they are content with the device's slow and steady performance, calling the release "a marathon not a sprint."

As usual then, Sony seems to be sticking  to their guns with regards to their hardware. Despite the fact that many industry analysts believe that a price cut would do the system some real good against the truly dominating DS consoles, they have shrugged these reports off on a  continuous basis. In August of this year, were were told that it is simply "too early" for a Vita price cut," and that the system is performing "in line with expectations." Proud words spoken for a company that truly does stand by their choices.

To put another nail in the coffin, more recent reports from earlier today don't show much of a change in perspective. Speaking to GamesIndustry International, John Koller had some very hopeful words to say about their latest handheld creation. "I don't want to get into anything specifically, but I do want to say, as we've said multiple times, it's a marathon, not a sprint," seems to be the general statement made in the conversation. Still we have heard previous reports of a price cut coming next year too. Do you think Sony is right in pricing the Vita this way, or will it simply fall somewhat flat as the PSP has done?

"Or will it simply fall somewhat flat as the PSP has done?"
In high school, we learned that for True or False questions that if any part was untrue the answer was False.
That said, the answer to this "question" is, False.

# It is about the product not the priceMichiel Krol 2012-10-31 17:06
It is not the price that is wrong, there are products that fit our needs better in many ways. The iPhone is a phone, you where it all the time, and you can game on it. Next to that our days are busy, we have less time to play very long games on the way. The market changed, Sony did not changed with them. :sigh:

I Live in Brazil where Price is all, and here all is Too Expensive like
PS3 Super Slim 250 Gb in the USA is $ 250,00 here in Brazil is $700,00 in our actual currency, and same price to PS VITA WIFI
PS VITA WiFi $700,00 without games or Memory Card.
But we have to search on Blackmarket to buy with price from USA like $250,00 to R$700,00 in our currency without tax, R$ 700,00 is like $350,00
Brazil is the world Top 4 in Buy Games here we are mass in gamers and hackers, but Brazil had bad Governators and their are focused in catch our money in Tax, Water Tax, Imported Games, Food, all you can imagine here had Tax but just to our poor people.
Resuming PS VITA problem in SALES is not PRIZE is ONE LITLE THING CALLED.
WHERE ARE FUC.>ING GAMES?????????????
IN the Stores we Found Less than 50Games to Buy, and no have games good like Need For Speed, Burnout, Street Fighter 4, COD, Sonic Adventure, God OF War? Whatever no games with quality, we see what PS VIta can do, with Uncharted, but just this???
Sony Want sell a console with just any rustic games???
Without talk about price of games, their want to sell games with same prize of gamers of PS3 sh#t we just go Buy if the games gone sell to $20,00 or max $30,00 just price for everyone no $39,00 or $29,00
Sorry my Bad Englsh.
Apreciate you compriention.

The games aren't that great at the moment. That's why I didn't buy one. For the price it is expensive but not for what it is.

Well if its a "sprint" I guess theyre doing A OK. But why not blow away the competion? I mean its freaking Sony were talking about!! They have been first for introducing and excelling in new formats/tech since I can remember. Dont get me wrong, the vita is one fine ass peice of hardware and as a die hard Sony fan, even I had to pass up on the vita thus far. As someone mentioned in an earlier post, we have smartphones now!! When im on the road my gs3 gets more than the job done when it comes to feeding the gaming vein. I have from Atari all the way to ps1 games on it nevermind the thousands of ps2/ds Ports that are on the market. And when im at home you better believe im gonna game on my TV!! I would say a price drop is definately in order.
