PlayStation Vita will be region free!

That's according SCE Worldwide Studios European head Michael Denny.

Speaking at the PlayStation Vita session for European and Australian press at E3 earlier, Denny confirmed that "to the best of his knowledge," Sony's hotly anticipated next gen portable would be region free.

It's definitely good news if true. This would mean that any Vita games will play on any unit from any region, unlike its rival, the Nintendo 3DS which is region-locked. The PlayStation Vita was announced earlier this week at Sony's E3 press briefing. It will come in two versions, a Wi-Fi only model which which will go on retail for 24,980 yen in Japan, US$ 249 in US and €249 in Europe, and a 3G/Wi-Fi model which will be available for 29,980 yen in Japan, US$ 299 in US and €299 in Europe. The PlayStation Vita will be hitting stores worldwide by the end of 2011.

If you get unlucky and customs check the package and realise that it's from a business seller then yeah, you'll get charged the taxes/fess. But if not then it's all good! I had one PSP from Japan and one from the US (they launched there before the UK) and I didn't pay any import fees on either of them.

If it's ticked as a gift, generally you'll be ok.

All of the first PSPs were region free. Not surprised that this is region free either.

Oh yeah, the GPS is on the WiFi version too I believe.

They saw how the 3ds was region locked and made sure they're system was not,smart move too,very smart.Nintendo!,Sony has just thrown down the gauntlet,it's your move,make it a big one or else..."sigh".

Look. They didn't make the PSP region lock. Why would they make the Vita region locked? Gosh!

Uhh... the PSP had region lock features they just were not required on games. By the way several were released that used it also.

Only the movies are region locked and that's not down to Sony, that's down to the movie/film industry requiring it.

So far, the PSP & PS3 are region free for gaming. Now the Vita is too, it's all good news. Here's to hoping they follow that trend when it comes to PS4!

Sony sure has learned from experience but they usually mess things up right from the start I can preorder it or wait and see if there will be a psvita 2000 and 3000 series

I'm definately gonna import a Wi-Fi only one from the US and just use my iPhone with MyWi if I want to use it online when I'm out! WIN!

Does anyone know whether you can have multiple accounts on psv or just one like the psp/go

Probably just one at a time like the current PSP, but it would be fantastic if it were more like the PS3 and games downloaded from multiple accounts all worked whoever you were logged in as on the unit.
