New 2D fighting spin-off for consoles also in the works.

Fresh from this week's issue of Famitsu, via Andriasang, comes news about Atlus latest Persona offerings. First on the list is a revamped version of the PS2 RPG, Persona 4. The new game, now known as Persona 4 The Golden, will be released on the PlayStation Vita in Spring 2012. It will feature a new female character named Mary, 1.5 times more voiceovers, new cutscenes, and an all new opening cinematic with music by Shouji Meguro. The upcoming title will also include "other elements that fans of the original have heavily requested," like the ability to use "wireless support for calling on others to help you when you're about to die in a dungeon."
But that's not all folks, in a surprising twist, Atlus also confirmed that a new spin-off of the series is currently in the works. And this time, its going to be a 2D fighter. They have teamed up with Arc System Works, the folks behind the BlazBlue fighting series, for a new game called Persona 4 The Ultimate In Mayonaka Arena. The game will be released first for arcades in Spring 2012, then for PS3 and Xbox 360 in Summer 2012. It will feature "a new story that takes place two yeas after the events of Persona 4," with characters from Persona 4 and Persona 3.
Sounds exciting. Next month, Atlus will also release the previously Japan-exclusive PSP title Persona 2: Innocent Sin in North America.
