vhbl1

Going from revision to revision while using VHBL can be a bit painful, if you have a non working homebrew and wonder if it's going to work on the next one. However, this advancement has the ability to put all of that to rest. An anonymous developer has been able to dump the entire flash0 contents of the Vita's PSP emulator. The flash0 contents consist of everything needed to run the emulator, including the Vita's kermit modules and kernel keys.

With all of this dumped and readily available, this can grant kernel access to the PSP emulator. At the moment, all three of the exploits that VHBL use are user mode based. Therefore, not all functionalities are available for use. With kernel mode, nearly every homebrew can be ran without issues using the emulator and the idea of a backup loader can be realized.

You can grab the flash0 dump from below, if you want to take a look through it.

There is no VHBL that runs in kernel mode, the whole point of VHBL is loading home brew with user modules. Kernel exploits = HEN

Not getting a Vita until it can fully emulate Ps1, and Psp never had a working Ps1 emulator cos it was built into FW so i doubt it's gonna happen anytime soon, and anyway this HBL doesn't have enough system access to do much more than GBA so i think my money's safe for a good while yet.

"Psp never had a working Ps1 emulator cos it was built into FW"

I'm guessing PS3 also does not have a working PS1 emulator.

PSP's built in emulator was hacked to play any ISO you gave it, years ago.

That is fully emulating PS1.

All i know is Psp had Pops loader so Ps1 games had to be converted to Eboots so no one bothered trying to make a proper Ps1 emulator, and since hardly anyone bothers to make high end emulators anymore and the Vita Psp emulator won't have Pops loader built in i really don't think this VHBL is gonna do very much except barely emulate GBA, and since there's almost no Vita games worth buying yet i'm not gonna waste £220 buying this thing waiting for that 1 decent game every month which i get maybe 10 hours enjoyment from.

POPS was a proper emulator. We have high end emulators; on PC. It's not like we could do much better than POPS, with the PSP's resources. When it comes to Vita, we might see a homebrew emulator that uses 640x480 or 1280x960, but that's still behind the PC versions. That isn't because nobody "makes them anymore", it's that the hardware isn't that powerful.

The problem is iPhone and Android have almost killed off console Homebrew because people expect to be paid for their work now, and if Sony had half a brain they would allow a decent amount of official Homebrew with a free restricted access SDK and sell stuff for a few Dollars, because then less people would want to hack Vita, but Sony are consistently too stupid to do things like that.

PSP has an excellent saturation of homebrew, and so did PS2, the only reason it slowed down for PS3 was the lack of having a way to use it until recently. The coincidence that iPhone and Android emerged is just that, coincidence.

PS: I don't know of any paid emulators for android. All the ones I've used are free.

Go on the market and you'll find dozens of paid emulators and most you don't pay for the Dev gets paid through ads, and there's all the other Apps and Games where the old Psp HB devs have gone to to make money for exactly the same thing they were doing for free on Psp, and it's pretty much the same on all consoles now, and all the legal and technical difficulties with Ps3 really are no excuse because if you remember Xbox 1, it was illegal to make games with the XDK but Homebrew was big back then so Devs made it anyway, so sadly it just is a fact that Android and IOS have almost killed Homebrew off.

Android hasn't killed homebrew, it allows it to flourish.

On Android it's not called Homebrew though, it's called a business opportunity, because Homebrew should be paid for with the acclaim and thanks of it's users and not money.

You're confusing homebrew with non-profit.

There's a simple way to know the difference, if you have to pay up front, download ads or have to pay to activate any features then it's not Homebrew, and most emulators for Android fall under at least one of those categories, and the ones that are free are usually pretty basic 8 or 16 bit.

So, if you have to pay for it's non-profit?

All i'm saying is Homebrew has to be completely free except like it's always been where you can choose to donate to the cause, and Homebrew peaked in 2007/2008 where Android and IOS metaphorically pushed it off a cliff combined with over saturation and just been clinging on ever since, and the almost complete lack of Ps3 Homebrew proves this because if people really wanted to make it they would, just like they did in the Xbox 1 days when there was no decent Homebrew SDK but still used the illegal XDK.

I think you are confusing homebrew with your own "homebrew". What makes homebrew is the lack of backing from another entity. Charging money doesn't enter into it.

Give it any title you like but the facts are that most people who used to make console Homebrew have either given up or moved to Android and IOS, and Homebrew over the last 4 years has shown Vita just won't get a fraction of what Psp did, and i see no reason this will change anytime soon.

I just hope it will be able to emulate PS2 games~ From all I've seen, it should be fully possible. And they could use the touch screen easily to make up for the lack of R2 and L2
