EA: Vita has better chance of success than 3DS

Electronic Arts provides praise for Sony's PlayStation Vita.

"I think that part of the videogame business is tough right now because they have had some significant competition come in that was totally disruptive, and that was the smartphone," said EA's Frank Gibeau. "I think [Sony has] got a shot because they have some really unique innovation in the control scheme, the technology and the screen."

"It's got a lot of social features now so that you can actually communicate with your friends and be social. You can't ring them up by putting the device up to your ear but in general I think they've got most of the capabilities that you'd find in a smart phone, with some unique capabilities that make them stand out," he continued.

"I don't think they're quite in the same boat as the 3DS... the 3DS was a really interesting piece of technology but I think there was some confusion over it and the title slate was a little different. I think Vita has a better chance because it has a stronger title slate at launch. PSP's had a great run in Europe as a device, it seems to have reached a much larger audience here than it did in North America. So I think they've got a good shot. We're going to publish a few games on it and see how it develops."

honestly hes right it does, ipod touch goes for 250 mainly and vita is goin for that with both camera's way better games and it has apps, plus ps suite with a touch screen and a touch pad the music and video, but with a amazing way high res screen with connectivity to ps3 and can work with the ps3 like the wii u and remote common they just gotta market it right and release those indie games which they are cuz indie devs got free dev kits so its goina b a all out war

And Ipod has that marvelous buttons, Shoulder buttns, rear pad, and Dual Analog..Not!!

we'll just about see which handheld is gonna be on the top for next and the other ff years.

right now, we're just speculating again and the outcome can change depending to the public.

but if you ask me, i will never buy a 3DS now or its reiteration, i'll just buy a Vita which is like owning a PS3.

It just seems like most opinions here are blind uneducated wishful thinking, because yeah Psp does well in some markets, but success in Japan means fuck all difference to everyone else if we don't and seriously we really don't get the games, and if you use some common sense you'll see Vita is nothing more than an identikit Psp with 6 years technical advancement, and I'll admit I've been wrong about console success and failure before. but really Vita will almost certainly do well in Japan but everywhere else it'll be same as Psp and get maybe 2 years of developers making decent games hoping it'll do well but then all but just give up on it, because it is a simple fact that people will end up playing more mobile games over the years and hi-tech stuff like Vita are just missing the phone feature that makes it practical to carry around, where stuff like 3DS are more like toys so always have some future.

Its still expensive for the normal gamer..but I'll buy it for the media features alone.

To be successful to the masses it has to have THREE things:
-GAMES
-GAMES
-GAMES
...and a reasonable price point($199.00)

Maybe we'll get an N64 emulator that runs at fulls speed and supports hi-res. Maybe even texture packs.

You should try it. I just love my PSP Zelda and PSP mario. And what's that about no games for PSP in America? Get real, it had huge hits along the years. It just isn't a shovelware device like the DS was. Or did you actualy play all those Pony pelting and Raving Rabbids games?

I'm sorry but just remember the Psp is 6 years old and how many of those huge hits would you say there's been over those years? At a push i'd say maybe 8, and most of the rest might look better than that DS Shovelware but at least with those you can get a few minutes enjoyment where most of the Psp games are just shiny turds, and no one is being forced to buy Shovelware, it just means you have to dig through the trash to find the treasure, plus if you take Homebrew out the equation exactly how good would the Psp be?

What's third party games on SNES got to do with anything? games made by other people are exactly the same as anything else if they officially sold, where Homebrew is something Sony fight hard to stop but is the only redeeming feature of Psp, so if you only go for officially bought stuff then Psp is worthless, and unless you speak Japanese there's no arguments with that.

Well yeah with Psp it's always been full of If. You think If i buy this there's almost no decent games but homebrew is alright even though almost no one creates it anymore, and the last 4 years you think If Sony makes more effort with Psp you might just get some decent games, but again unless you live in Japan they do almost nothing to push it forward.
