With more and more fairly bad news for Square Enix lately people have been wondering what they were going to do next. What turns out to be one of the safer bets for big companies who are blowing in the breeze is that they will decide to go back to the well and draw on old water.  Apparently they will be doing this with their remake of Final Fantasy X.

According to Yoshinori Kitase, a producer for the original FFX, the PS3 and Vita creations will be more than just a HD remaster, but a complete remake. The game will look and play the same but will have some upgraded shadings and a lack of a remade sequel to look for.

The game was announced back at the Tokyo Game Show in September 2011 with the game just being teased in it's early stages with Kitase's role unclear. However, he says the remake will match the quality of the original.  I remember playing Final Fantasy X back in the day and kind of enjoying it despite not being a JRPG fan.  I hope Kitase won't be pissing off fans new and old with a remake. Although, having the game on the Vita will be great for gamers who will want to play it on long road trips.

What was news to me was that  Final Fantasy X was not the game that was being remade but that it was popular enough to warrant it.

its not that noone would want to play ffx on a long roadtrip, i mean its a good game. its just that the vita isn't capable of extended use due to the 4.5hr(average) battery life.

it's called a charger.. so what if it is only about 5 hrs, psp had plenty of rpgs and i never had a battery issue and that was about the same battery life. damn why can't ppl be happy. matter a fact if you know your going to play it for more then that on the road, why wouldn't you bring a charger and 9 times out of 10 you'll be in one spot while playing so you can keep it on the charger while playing

I don't think everyone seats and play 5 hrs straight on a trip...( you need to eat, sleep, talk, etc etc ) and everyone knows these kind of games, you play resting somewhere, not necessarily away from home ( or electricity )

People keep making a big deal about amazing graphics and huge games on Vita but this thing is still just a fucking handheld, so it should be getting loads of stuff you can have a quick 5 minute blast at bus stop or toilet break, but just like the Psp there's gonna be almost none and is exactly the reason the NDS will always have a bigger market and why Vita is just gonna die on it's arse.

5 Minute blast...

Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational
Little Deviants
ModNation Racers: Road Trip
Super StarDust Delta
wipEout 2048
Blazblue: Continuum Shift EXTEND
Lumines Electronic Symphony
Plants vs. Zombies
Touch My Katamari
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3

All of these games sound as if they cater to your 5 minute criteria.

I myself like my handheld to also have some extensive RPGs and other longer games.

Yeah obviously it needs a good mix to suit everyone but i'm going by the 6 year history of Psp here, and there was just a handful of good big or small entertaining games and i'm looking at Vita and i just see another Psp, so lets just call a spade a spade here and say what Vita really needs... A small mountain of cheap Shovelware, i mean complain all you want about Shovelware but no one's being forced to play them all and if you dig deep enough through the trash everyone can find their own treasure.

Wow, comparing a system that hasn't been out for a full month yet with a system that has had a run of 6 years ?

How about you start yapping about there being no games on the Vita after a year or so from now, your concerns are rather premature if you ask me.

I'll come back to this discussion in 2 years when people start talking about Vita exactly the way they been talking about Psp the last 3 years.

you do know that the PSP is extremely successful in Japan, mainly due to monster hunter.

it's kind of like how the vita is doing great in the western markets so far, while it hasn't done well in japan yet.

video game tastes in different regions vary wildly.

They are saving the FF7 remake for when they almost go bankrupt because they know that remake is their cash cow trump card

I have a feeling this is Motomu Toriyama's way of trying to bring about a resurrection of his other failure of a creation, FFX-2. That man needs to be fired in the most insulting manner possible.

There's not even a comparison in graphics between the two games. FFX is SO much better graphic wise than FFVI.

final fantasy type-0 is on the PSN network available to download for the VIta i own a vita and played it(psp ver) it actually looks pretty neat and the shadow effects are good as well. so it is not necessaries to make it for the vita since the psp ver is playable on the vita in a larger resolution

Wait, am I getting this news article right? Does Square Enix intend to change the ending of FFX so that a sequel will not be neccecary? I sure hope that's not the case.

If the game have trophies and some changes, I might buy it. I already finished it 3 times, and my last game took me 123 hours, lol. Still, I had everything in the game... and I had around 45 000 HP with my main characters... lol. I loved this game.

Still, I wonder when I'll find the time to play this game again. I don't have any of those 123 hours to spend... :( Sadly.

Who the f*&# taught SE how to count? How do they skip 7,8,9 and just jump to 10? Anyone else feel like they're purposely yankin di*#s? I love 10....but I love the others too...what is this? How many years are we seriously gonna have to wait?!

Well that's simple because every game since FFVII has been getting incrementally worse so they start with FFX because do a bad remake of that and people just shrug their shoulders and go Meh...
But a bad remake of FFVII could ruin Square's already mediocre reputation.

Bullshit.

If this isn't proof of nostalgia-goggles, I don't know what is.

FFX was the beginning of me starting to dislike SE. I no longer buy there games due to me not finding there games enjoyable any more. FFX was the beginning of them starting to over simplify the FF series sadly.
