PS Vita Pre-Orders Selling Out in Japan

According to RPG Site, two of Japan’s biggest online retailers have completely sold out of their PS Vita pre-order stock. In other words, if you didn’t pre-order the system, you’re not getting one when it hits shelves in December. While this is by no means a complete sellout of every Vita on the market, it’s still a strong indicator that the handheld is likely going to be in short supply upon release.

Both Amazon.jp and Yodobashi are sold out of PS Vitas for the moment, even with two different versions of the system to offer. Concerns over the 20mb data cap imposed on the 3G version in Japan don’t seem to have dissuaded gamers from pre-ordering the system, and enthusiasm is clearly high.

I tried to Google translate the Japanese blog, Esuteru, that initially broke the story, and the headline I got was, “PlayStation Vita net shop's availability, nearly destroyed the state there is no hope anymore.” While this information is certainly disconcerting, it’s probably more of a translation issue that any real problem with the Japanese state or the general hopes of mankind.

Whatever that blog actually says, it does confirm that Amazon, Yodobashi, Bic Camera, Sofmap and Joshin are currently out of pre-orders – these sites represent the largest Japanese online portals for purchasing games and systems.

It will be interesting to see if this enthusiasm carries over into the North American launch, now dated for March. Demand is certainly high, but without a holiday season, perhaps the Vita will be a little easier to come by here in the States.

What do you make of the Vita’s newfound success? Also, can anyone tell me what that webpage actually says?

In your face 3ds, its already Owning you. Atleast in possible sales.

I pre Ordered the 3g version long ago when it was officially anounced earlier this year, and also pre ordered a 32gb mem card and game to go along with it.

I Can't wait for that official release date Sony, please tell us soon, its to awesome to push back to whatever the release date it may be for us in North America. Lol Febuary right, place holders mean nothing..

Please be earlier like EBgames states a January release. Or even Decembber.

I want a 3DS, I can get one for 100 dollars (new) but at I also want this.

3DS has 2nd analog stick so that sucks. I'm afraid the next gen will have 2.

A second analogue improves gaming a whole lot better, while 3DS's 2nd analogue is an add-on and yes, the add-on does suck for being so big-ish.

Oops must have written that when I was tired.

Meant to say I wanted a 2nd analog stick on a 3DS to improve gaming experience. I have a feeling that the next gen will have this add-on instead of the connectable one.

Psp always sold by the fuck load in Japan but has that made even the slightest difference to the embarrassing lack of decent games in the west? So pre-orders over there mean nothing more than Sony's possibly gonna be making enough money from the Japanese to keep making the Vita which is the same reason Psp still exists and why Vita's ever gonna happen, and now i'd love to see it succeed but you won't know until at least 6 months after the western release.

The 3G looked interesting but due to its restrictions, Wi-Fi will be the wiser choice.

Lol the thing is almost as powerful as a ps3, i doubt this time round the games are going to suck in the west, they are even saying its the easiest console to develop for to date, even more so then the 360.

So the chances are low for a small library of games for the Psvita.

It "looks" like it can mimic the visuals of the PS3. I wouldn't be surprised if it's as powerful as the PS2 with more RAM and shaders. Imagine a Radeon 9600 with SM4 and 1GB of RAM

PS: Your reasoning that it won't have bad games is that it's powerful?

All that power means shit without cooling and unless Sony's pulled some voodoo out it's arse i just don't see how it can technically sustain these "Ps3" level graphics without burning a hole in the Earth, so yeah i expect 95% of the games are just Ps2 level with some extra textures, but since it's a 5" screen it'll be hard to tell anyway, and now i love the idea of portable Ps3 games but i doubt there'll be more than a handful of them.

I've seen a PS2 game rendered at 1080p and it looks sweet, but takes a pretty mean computer to emulate. That being said, this won't be emulation and I don't doubt the PSV will have the power to run something equal to a PS2 game at 960x544. Also, I hope Sony has plans for PS2 on PSV.

There's no reason the games can't look close to the PS3 than the PS2, tbh. Remember that the resolution is significantly lower and ARM processors are possibly the most power efficient processors in existence, so daisy chaining a bunch of those together might work miracles.

The original PSP only came out four years after the PS2, let's remember. The Vita has almost six years ahead of its console brother.

Fuck you sony for releasing PS Vita 100 years in the west after you showed it to us. They should've had the press release closer to launch date instead of demoing it and then leave us hanging. April release... god it could have benn 2013 relase... same shit.
