The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will have a "streamlined" armor system to make sure the game isn't too complicated. Is this dumbing it down?

I'd say it isn't.

I welcome a more streamlines approach to armor in an Elder Scrolls game. I always felt like finding out what armor piece was better in Oblivion was somewhat confusing.

The bigger issue, though, is the apparent lack of customization. Armor is said to be a single piece, meaning that players won't be equiping different gloves or boots with their chain mail and helmet. This has made some people angry, as armor customization is essential in any role playing game.

Except it really isn't that important in Elder Scrolls, at least in my opinion, for this simpe, reason: you play the game in first person, so you never really see your character. You can still use a variety of different cool looking swords, so unless you can look down at your feet Halo style, it doesn't really matter what your armor looks like. The only thing that will matter is how much defense it gives you, which will be much easier with this new streamlined approach.

What do you think of this new armor system? Sound off in the comments section below and be sure to continue the discussion on our community forums.

I am not entirely sure how to feel about it all being one piece, but I have had no chance to try it out. I'll admit I'm skeptical, but I'm definitely willing to give it a go. I am personally a welcomer of change in videogames, so as long as it's done right, I will enjoy it. I still can't wait no matter how they make the armor system work.

"you play the game in first person, so you never really see your character. " YOU OBVIOUSLY NEVER PLAYED A SINGLE ELDER SCROLLS GAME BEFORE. ITS PLAYED IN BOTH FIRST AND THIRD PERSON. GET YO FACTS STRAIGHT.

The game wasn't meant to look good in 3rd person. They have specifically stated that the 3rd person is a very low priority, and if you take a look at any of the Elder Scroll games, it is blatantly obvious just looking at the movement.

yeah true it was terrible, but they could always try the over shoulder approach, similar to resident evil, gta or the witcher.

but close enough that the legs are out of view if the animations for it are still over exaggerated

GTA- suck

GoW- suck

RE5- suck (make puzzles not action, thats what your good at)

Over the shoulder leads to crappy sluggish gameplay and even worse character movement. No strategic moves can be used. No stalking enemies when you walk in one direction have to stop turn then keep going. Seeing around corners like they arent even there. 3rd person shooters suck for that reason.

I can See on the other side of this crate but they cant see me. BULLSHIT and Bethesda knows this any real developer knows this and only shit games use it.

Thats why bulletstorm a FPS is better than GoW because it's gameplay is move fluent. Although they are both powered by the unreal engine made by epic studios.

3rd person anything would be better in first person. Like dead space "horror game" my ass. How are you suppose to be "scared" if you can see things coming behind you?

Dumbed down so it can go multiplatform, no surprise there. Though elderscrolls was never really much about collecting equipment but creating the character that fits the players playstyle. This also fixes the common problem most MMO's have, and that is looking like a clown because most of the equipment the player has do not match.

You ARE aware that Oblivion was multiplatform as well, right?

It's idiot gamers with IQ's lower than room temperature that ruin games. I cant figure this out! Armor system slashed. Its been that way since morrowind and even still morrowind you had individual pieces left and right gloves pauldrons boots. You'd be screwed then.

"What do you do if you cant put on armor? Be a mage."

After watching the e3 gameplay trailer that features such things as the inventory and skill trees, I can confirm that armor pieces are separate. In said trailer they show the inventory, in which is located Elven Armor, Elven Boots, Elven Gauntlets, and Elven Helmet. It seems as though the only things combined into one item is the chest and legs. After watching that trailer, I cannot wait for this game. It is going to be utter greatness.

There's numbers, descriptions, and cool looks!! Where's your common sense?
Obviously:
Higher numbers = better
Enchantment descriptions = decide what is cool to you
Cool armor = high stats(ex. Daedric, guard armor)

I have to say that this article is very inaccurate. 3rd person was part of the elder scrolls since it morrowind. The armor system I think is very easy to understand now with that I don't mind the new armor system but it also leaves out some of thouse rare hard to mind enchanted armor items that were spread through the game. Also this site kinda sucks ass now

Oh my god, not only can you view yourself in 3rd person as a lot of people have stated, but fer cryin out loud, more armor pieces means more fun collecting stuff, it means more unique looks, it's the stuff of joy. Gimme 16 armor slots and I'm in heaven. Not only that but they've reduced the amount of attributes too, down to 3. Seriously,.. more attributes equals more variation in your character, which equals more fun and more re-playability. Thanks Bethesda for treating me like a glue-sniffing crayon-eating monkey that rides the short bus, appreciate it, now everything is "stream-lined" I can really save time on all that "thinking" and "decision making" that really slowed me down before.
