POV: Damn You, Cheap Builds

Every multiplayer game, no matter how many steps the developers take to make it otherwise, has a cheap build of some sort. Sour grapes aside, there are always builds that the community at the very least perceives as cheap when compared to all the other bells and whistles you can play with. Black Ops had the old Famas, Team Fortress 2 had the Heavy...you could go on and on.

The plus side of the these builds and so-called overpowered items (noob tube, flak jacket, whatever) is that it lowers the learning curve for new players. It really can put the game in "easy mode" for those players and ensure that they stick around long enough to keep playing the game, buying DLC, etc. On the other hand, plenty of players will never give up their easy mode - even when they're level eleventy-billion. At that point, you have a now-experienced player with a cheap build, which can be a headache for everyone else.

Do you use such a build in your game of choice? Or do you prefer to challenge yourself with the more obscure stuff that no one else uses for the hell of it? Either way, just go ahead and admit your loadout. We won't judge you.

Pro pipes, or 'noob tubes' as they're commonly incorrectly referred as, are actually a lot less cheap than people make them out to be. At least nowadays. You get two shots per life. So, for every death, assuming you even hit your mark, they don't have flak jacket, you've proper aim, etc..you get 1-5 kills. Usually 1-2 at best. The reason people bitch about them is because they're one hit kills. Well, so is a knife, but nobody bitches. Someone quickscopes you but that's okay, right? That's part of the game. Well, so are prop pipes. Here's the cons: 2 shots. Has travel time, thus meaning you can be killed. Takes a second to fire the shot, thus if you're hit, your shot flies into the sky instead of at your target. It's easily stoppable with flak jacket, and the user is dead once the enemy team realizes this. Pros: It's a one shot kill. Hmm..that's..about it. It's a pro weapon to use, because unlike guns, it has physics properties you need to learn. You don't just aim at someone 50 meters across the map, you have to calculate properly where they are and hope they don't move after you fire. Close up, if they're -too- close, you'll fire a dud. They're not overpowered, it's just the hype and the joke that's been running since forever. People don't like to have their killstreaks cut short by something they feel is 'overpowered'. Guns are overpowered, should we stop using those? People wouldn't bitch about the MP40 in WaW, but you 'noob tube' once, and suddenly it's open mic night at the Apollo. It's a game. So you have to change classes, that's good. That breaks the tedium of an already tedious grind that makes up call of duty and the like.

Whatever the insane Tactical Knife build was in MW2. I wrecked that.

I used the Marathon, Lightweight, Commando, Tactical Knife combo in MW2 because to me it made it like an assassin game in first person where you would run up behind people while avoiding others which was fun for a while.

However, I usually try to not use the cheap builds because most of them use stuff I don't like(like grenade launchers and such.)

Also, World at War's MP40 is a lot more overpowered than Black Ops' FAMAS...

cannon rush thats all i have to say

well not really, when i first stated playing about 3 out of every 5 protoss players did this and it really pissed me off. After a while i started doing it myself to see if it was easy, and it was, it was also pretty boring after the 5th time so people who constantly do this really need to put more effort into the strategy part of the game.

after a while i got good enough to handle them without too much effort but every time i see someone do it, it makes me annoyed, if after the battle its a rookie player then i'm not so annoyed cause obviously he doesn't know how to play well online, and that'll (hopefully) change in time, but if its a guy who's played 50+ games then i just want them to go die in a hole.

these things helps new player adjust to the game's mechanics, but people overuse them. In my case I've played various games(PS, Xbox, PC) but I've learned to vary so I don't get bored, some examples:

MW2-I've rarely if never used a "noob-tube" they're just not my thing.

BO-The Famas was my only gun for like 20 lvls, got bored, I think I've used basically every gun now.

I've never quick-scoped in a public match.

Naruto UNS 2-I've never been a spammer, though I do preffer some characters.

That'all I can really think of.
