PoV: Consoles haven't peaked yet

Michael Pachter claims that consoles may have peaked. He's couldn't be more wrong.

If consoles have peaked, then so has PC gaming. And PC gaming rigs are continually getting more powerful.

Sure, consoles release every six to seven years and their hardware quickly becomes out of date, but technology has been advancing in a way that suggests it won't slow down anytime soon.

Consoles -- and PCs for the matter -- won't peak until developers are capable of creating photo-realistic games with millions of enemies on screen at once. This level of graphical fidelity would also allow developers to make stunning titles that focus on art style instead of realism.

HD may have peaked, however. The next logic step in viewing a game is 3D, which is relatively young and un-tested technology.

there is no way that HD has peaked, most games dont come in native HD for consoles, and almost no games come in 1080p for consoles and those that do; do it at the cost of having good and unique textures for 3d environments. the console hardware we have today has 256MB of vram and dose not even have basic graphics features like unified pixel shaders or SM4. the current consoles were made a time when the people doing the parts picking were under the idea of a pc OEM that thinks its all about the cpu even though the current consoles have more than 2x the cpu they need they have the gpu out of a laptop from the year before they came out. we need a new back of consoles and they need atleast 2BG of vram and to be able to play all games in native 1080p or better, at that point we will have nice looking textures, hopefully enough power for atleast 4-8x AA or MSAA and we wont have the continual problem of needing to stream textures to the VRAM leading to no loads (like gta4 were u come up on nothing if u cross the map to quickly) or slow gameplay like most new shooters and UT3 have been destroying gaming with.

Consoles are for kids so there parents don't worry about them looking up porn. Consoles are limited no Mouse and Keyboard its bad for FPS games. Plus you can't do a lot of things you can do on PC like Mods and so on, I'm not going to list a million things. But the main reason is because its a pain to do things like go on the Web, Music, Movies, and all the things you can do with PC you can't do with a console and all the games that are good come out on PC and are cheaper because of all the sales. Don't forget about the F2P Games so why would you buy a console for anything other then local multiplayer? A gaming PC only costs about 500 USD like iBUYPOWER. Now please stop the PC vs Console it just create spam.

iBUYPOWER is trash. Either build a rig yourself or configure a custom prebuilt from eCollegePC.com.

The PS3 has still something to show.
The Xbox360 on the other hand, has reached it's limits (and even if it hasn't, Gears of War 3 will).

And about PC gaming, when you get poorly ported games, yeah, it has peaked.
But looking at BF3, you see that the PC (as a gaming platform) has still much to show.

I won't comment about the Xbox360, but the PS3 has definitely not been pushed to it's full power yet.

I know it hasn't, but let's wait for Uncharted 3.

Uncharted 2 was supposed to use 100%, so we should wait for the 3rd one to judge.

yes they have peaked, your logic is wrong. Look at all the games that are Multiplatform for PC and consoles. Its quite clear how developers are now taking shortcuts on the quality of the games because of the limits of the hardware on the consoles vs PC. Either the PC games always look and run better or the games are almost exactly on PC or consoles but the graphics and draw distances are just horrible. I'm no PC fanboy I own all the current gen consoles and plan on buying next gen, with the current consoles on their last year or two in their lifespan yes console performance has peaked.

First I made my own PC but said that about iBUYPOWER so no one can say a PC cost 800 USD. Second I said "Now please stop the PC vs Console it just create spam." meaning the PC is the Ultimate Gaming Platform.
Third pawn535 you spammed so it means you are a console noob. Last the PC is the Ultimate Gaming Platform you can't really be in a clan on a console or play for real money in a tournament. Serious Gamers are PC Gamers most play about 4 hours a day or more. The question is how is a console greater then a PC other then local multiplayer, prove me wrong, how? You can't because PC is the Ultimate Gaming Platform.
