Good Hate Mail, or "Get Out of the Basement, You Noob Kill Stealer, Durrr"

If you've spent even a modicum of time in online gaming, you've probably gotten some good hate mail. I'm one of the more passive gamers out there; I prefer "support" roles (medic/sniper/heavy weapons/capturing objectives) versus front line frantic gunfights (though I can handle it if I have to), yet even I have managed to get some pretty good hate mail over the years.

When I first took to online gaming, I quickly figured out that the mic was a waste of time unless you were playing with friends. Welcome to the Internet. However, you can't (and probably shouldn't) just block all communication with the entire online gaming community so I still got some pretty funny communications. I really don't know what possesses these people. I've never just sent out random messages to strangers that mostly consist of the words "fuck, "noob," and "faggot" in various combinations. I just assume they're 12 years old and move on. I don't even respond...well, I rarely respond.

Who still seriously uses the word "noob" anyway?

Here's some good hate mail that sticks out in my mind:

In any Gears of War game, "kill stealing" is a huge factor for many. If you don't already know, in GOW you "down" enemies unless you outright blow them up with a shotgun, etc. or headshot them. They then crawl around until they get revived or revive themselves. This leads to many people getting downed, then someone else comes in and mops up - "stealing" the kill. Quite often, this happens when multiple players are focusing fire on one enemy and the inevitable happens. I try to do the "honorable" thing - especially if someone else on my team has already done the same - but sometimes shit happens. Then, you guessed it, hate mail! Joy!

I've also gotten hate mail for using a cover mechanic in a game that has...a cover mechanic. How dare you!?! In Red Dead Redemption, a German guy sent me some hate mail saying he was going to have his friend "hach" my account because I was camping in "his" game. Sigh.

I've even gotten hate mail in pure co-op games, such as Ghostbusters. I was playing and there was a guy who was obviously new to the game who didn't wholly understand how it all worked. It was a bit tedious, but we still won in the end. When the game was over, I got some mail from one of the other players that read, "When we have the ghost, don't whip it around like that you fucking idiot!" To which I responded, "No shit, but that wasn't me. I do appreciate your enthusiasm, however." I was almost hoping for a reply to my measured response, but it was not to be.

I also recently got some mail from a random guy who I played Assassin's Creed: Revelations with (I don't even remember playing with him) that simply read, "cum dump." I wasn't sure if that was name calling or supposed to be some kind of shocker, but I just reported it all the same. In fact, this one is still sitting in my inbox, causing me to laugh every time I see it and actually inspired me to see what others have experienced here.

In the end, I just report these people and move on. I learned long ago to not give in to them and let them get to me.

If you want hate mail, travian(in its prime) was made for hate mail. When noobs spend weeks and months just to see my catapults destroy everything they built, their only choice is to quit and start over on a new server. But their reaction as I rip their account to shreds is priceless. After all, whats holding you back if the account has to be deleted? Bans are no issue if you don't want the account.

Someone called me a "BK" and asked why I was even playing the game if I was so bad, because I had negative score in CoD, does that count?

(Note: I was messing around so I died a lot lol, apparently you can't have fun in games or people will hate you now a days...)

i once got called a fucking asshole because i didn't quit a game that froze up before the other guy did.
that game? Monopoly Streets.

not even a game that is 100 years old is safe from online assholes.
