PoV: The best copycat games |
Listed in: Wii Tags: apple, super meat boy, team meat, tobar
The big news today was Team Meat's Edmund McMillen criticizing Apple for allowing copycat games to be released on the App Store. With that in mind, what are the best copycat games?
These aren't entirely copycat games -- not to the extent that Tobar copies Super Meat Boy -- but these games take mechanics from established franchises.
The two best "copycat" games, by far, are Okami and Shadow Complex. These two games copied The Legend of Zelda and Metroid respectively, only they added their own twist -- something that too many copycat games don't do.

Okami was a fresh adventure that incorporated the Celestial Paintbrush, a mechanic that allows players to manipulate the world by painting on it. Shadow Complex was a fun 2.5D Metroid style romp, but it had a rather bland art style. Still, it was a lot of fun to play through, especially for fans of Metroid.

I would say muramasa is a copy of Viewtiful joe, .. Simphony of the night was more like Metroid really.. but muramasa didn't have the same depth..
