PoV: Nintendo has the best first party titles

But you weren't surprised by that headline, were you?

This great debate has risen over what Xbox CFO Dennis Durkin said last week, and Micahel Pachter's response. To sum it up: Durkin believes that Microsoft has the best first party games, but Pachter disagreed, saying that Nintendo's first party games are the best.

For once, I agree with Pachter.

Just going to sales route alone, which is what Durkin used to qualify Microsoft first party games as better, Mario blows out the competition. By a long shot. Mario Kart Wii and New Super Mario Bros. Wii have both sold over 20 million copies each. Halo is massively popular, but it didn't even sell that much.

Going in terms of quality -- which I admit is subjective -- Nintendo's first party titles win again. Super Mario Galaxy and Galaxy 2 are the highest rated console games of this generation. Uncharted 1 and 2 are great, but they're not as spectacular as both Galaxy games. Not to mention high wuality first party titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Metroid Prime 3, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

I'd be inclined to agree Nintendo has exceptional first party titles. As much as I hate to, I'll fall in line with the other guys around the internet when looking at first party titles of other consoles, there's more of the same at their core, such as Halo, Uncharted, and CoD (the 'shooters').

Every time Nintendo puts out one of their franchises like Mario or Zelda, it usually feels fresh to me.

Well, the only good/popular titles on the Wii are first-party...
And yeah, this totally caught me off guard. I thought Carl B. would say Microsoft had the best first-party support.

lol awesomely well done carl awesomely done. fact and opinion loved it. But i have to agree with you I do rather enjoy Nintendo's first party titles.

I love Nintendo First party game,old gamer here ( put old on that ), sure I enjoy some hardcore, shooting, smashing stuff, like anyone else, but after sometime / years you want something that is not just button smash repetitive cosmetic appealing with High Def graphics... for relative newcomers sure looks "wow" but when you look behind the veil of "pure awesomeness" and find the same genre packed with another face...its depressing.
But when you pick up something like Zelda, or Mario Galaxy everything feels "fresh" again..

It's really a matter of your own personal preference. I feel like I've outgrown most of Nintendo's titles, whereas the "shooter" genre is what I'm into because of the competiton. But just so you know, Uncharted is a Sony title...

Pre-Wii Nintendo were the unequaled kings of first party games, but the last 5 years they've only done a handful of original first party titles because most of what they releasing now is just re-releases of their good older games, so if you just go by the last 5 years then yeah the Nintendo games are better but it's just the sheer lack of them that makes MS & Sony look better.

Sony has the most diverse line up of first party games out of all of them.

1.fps: Killzone, resistance, MAG

2.tps: Socom,Uncharted

3.platform: ratchet & clank, Jak & daxter, sly cooper, loco roco, patapon, Little big planet, Prinny, ape escape.

4.Racing: motorstorm, gran turismo, modnation racers, wipeout, twisted metal

5.action: god of war, infamous, heavy rain, yakuza, war hawk

6.role playing: 3d dot hero, dc universe

7.trivia: Buzz

8.music: sing star

7.sports: mlb the show

Most people are forgetting that the Wii has Wii Fit and those games that are first party.

The best? Yeah right! Just because they made 20 versions of the same Mario game doesn't make their games better. Play a real game like Battlefield 3 and CoD

Well...they may have the best first party tittles but that is not enough...people can't relay or whatever the word is (english not my native languaje) on nintendo's games only
