With so many video game websites, does anyone still buy gaming magazines?

Future Publishing announced today that their board of directors decided the publishing house should go int he digital direction. This means that several high profile gaming magazines, including Nintendo Power, EGDE, Xbox 360 Official, and Official Nintendo Magazine, will go under.

But does anyone actually subscribe to these anymore?

I have two gaming magazine subscriptions: Nintendo Power and Game Informer. I love Nintendo Power, and I'll be sad to see that go away, but I could care less about GI -- I only have it because GameStop employees bug me about it everytime I go to the shop.

Gaming magazines usually get the inside scoop and exclusive details on upcoming games. We first found out about Dishonored through Game Informer, so they certainly have some appeal.

@Gamer from Best Buy has coupons for games at Best Buy. Coupled with Reward Zone rewards, I often find myself picking up games for really cheap or often free. If .com's could offer me the same, then I would have no reason to buy magazines anymore... Then there's always reading material for the crapper when I don't feel like bringing my iPad with me when a throw a deuce.

it's just like any printed media - it's all losing money consistently in the past decade, so conversion to digital is the logical step to reduce expenses.

GameInformer is really the only thing I can think of. Most people get their news from sites like this, it seems.
Having an RSS reader like Google Reader to define someone's interests is like having all of the magazine content they could ever ask for in one easy to find place.
Of course, coupons and promotional items aren't gonna be included in an Atom feed....

I really enjoy Nintendo Power I hope it doesn't go away either. As well though i do enjoy checking qj.net even if their are a bunch of douche bags on here who whine about crap all the time (yes i understand by making that statement I am putting myself in the same position as my statement)

no, i dont see how is viable i think it will die like newspapers will soon, i mean to get yesterday news online like on qj a month later on a magazine where is the fun in that, before internet or at the beginning of public internet it was nice because of lack of information but now, ha- they should save the paper and keep it all digital...

I just google PDFs of magazines and pop them iPad. Once had a collection of gem and the box that holds them are so heavy. Pirate them. Information and news should be free anyways

I brought a couple a few weeks ago. But that was only because i needed something to do while i was on an airplane. I wouldn't have brought them if Skyrim wasn't on the cover.

Retrogamer is a MUST by for me each month. Best gaming magazine on the planet. In depth articles on the games of yesteryear as well as news on sequels, remakes, old games company long gone etc.

Fascinating reading on a monthly basis. I'll take a magazine like that over the more "next gen" games magazines any day.

I get the only gaming magazine that actually matters.

EGM

All hail the king! (EGM, not Duke Nukem)

There are a load of us that read Gamesmaster which is part of Future, however none of us are happy about this going digital (saying it does come here to England)...

Many of us with probably disband and let Future lose more money, this is a stupid idea... I actually hate how everything is going digital now days. I prefer hard copies!

EDGE is amazing, great slick new layout. Something to look forward to, intelligently written and really digs in to stuff behind the scenes. Its also something that doesn't look childish and can be left floating around the house without people thinking that I'm a sub normal grownup ;-)

I still like the way magazines have everything laid out so you not filtering through all the crap in each console section on websites to find interesting news, but really the only magazines I've read for a good 5 years now are the old ones i download and read out of nostalgia.

Yep, Nin Power, PS Mag, and GI. The first 2 seem to have good info often, things I may miss online. I can read them without a PC and they only come to like a buck an issue (if you wait for a $12 offer). GI is the least desired but I can't get a GS card without it.

Internet sites have too much crap anyway. Ads and popups, useless links, crap about the 360 nobody wants to see, whiny fankids, and so on.
