PoV: 2011 is Wii's last full year |
Listed in: Wii Tags: e3 2011, Nintendo, price cut

If the recent rumors about a Wii price cut are true, there's no doubt that 2011 is the final full year of the Wii.
2010 was a fantastic year for Wii owners. Awesome first party titles such as Super Mario Galaxy 2, Donkey Kong Country Returns, and Kirby's Epic Yarn all released, along with top notch third party games like Monster Hunter Tri, Epic Mickey, and Red Steel 2.
Releases for 2011 have definitely slowed down, with the only notable games on the horizon being Conduit 2 and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. North American localization for Xenoblade and The Last Story may happen, but it's obvious the Wii is running out of steam.
Another fact to consider is that Nintendo has historically released a new home console shortly after a new handheld iteration. The Nintendo DS released in 2004, and two years later, the Wii released. Both the Gameboy Advance and the Gamecube released in 2001, and the original Gameboy came out several years before the Super NES.
Don't expect anything about a new Nintendo home console at this year's E3 -- the company still wants people to buy Wiis for the rest of the year, and there still may be new games from established franchises coming (i.e StarFox). GDC 2012 would be the perfect place for an announcement, considering the Wii was first revealed at GDC, with E3 2012 bringing information of a holiday release in that same year.

Because there's still a huge market for the Wii if they sell at the lowest price they can like the Ps2, but this could sell even better as long as Nintendo does something with Wii 2 that stands out over it.

I don't see any good games for the Wii coming out and out of all the games for it, I think that Super Smash is the only good game for it even now.
I don't think the Wii 2 is due right now.. Maybe a Wii 1.5 or Wii HD, but not a successor.

why? its not like technology hasn't moved on far enough lol

Not realistic. Nintendo would not sell a Wii 2 until they know they've gotten all the money from the Wii 1 that they can.

They'll release a new console with a graphic card equal to NVIDIA's 7800/7900 while the others would use 8800+ (more or less).
Consoles are always outdated in terms of hardware, but the games are always pretty good. :)

I mean, everything seems to be a rehash except for a few titles. The few titles seem actually pretty good, but the majority is just redo's or innovations on older games. Some of them are pretty good, but like every console/handheld i expect a remake of some sort and that's their big seller.
