What is your Game of The Year? |
Listed in: PSP Tags: game of the year 2011, game of the year prospects, goty 2011, goty speculation
We are fast approaching the end of 2011, so to end out this week, let's do some speculation together on which game QJ.Net readers think should be crowned Game of the Year for 2011.
I have provided a shortlist below of some of the more popular titles, the big hits that have come over the most recent months (and a few from earlier on in the year).
2011 has been a huge year on the PS3, PC and Xbox 360, with only a couple of titles from the Nintendo Wii even coming close to making the grade (in my opinion, of course).
Lets take a look at my shortlist, but go ahead and make your own (or rip at mine).
Batman: Arkham city
Solid follow up to Arkham Asylum in terms of story and the combat was made even more crisp. Graphics are stunning, voice acting is top notch (it has Mark Hamill in it, need we say more?)

Battlefield 3
Graphics, unbelievable. Online gameplay, also unbelievable. About the only thing I dislike about BF3 is the fact that it is made by EA, but, can't hold that against one of the best titles of 2011 and easily the best shooter of 2011.

Call of Duty: MW3
Put this in here because you cannot argue with raw sales numbers (really, you can't). Call of Duty continues to sit at the top as the most successful game franchise of all time, and with sales figures in the realm of $400k in 24 hours, you should be impressed. Good marketing? Definitely! The game is Ok aswell, but perhaps does not deserve to be in the voting on sales figures alone?

L.A. Noire
Recently released on PC to not 'as much' fanfare as it had on the PS3 and Xbox360, L.A. Noire produced one of the most enthralling story lines of 2011.

Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Recently released, the voice acting is superb and is clearly the best game for the Wii, and the best Zelda for the console also. Maybe not quite able to keep pace with the other blockbusters of the year however.

Minecraft
Indie release of the year by far, but could be a contender through sheer weight of support from the online community.

Portal 2
Funny. Super Funny. Hilarious in parts actually. Great DLC's and it is such a pleasure to play for a puzzle game. Should not be overlooked and will definitely be in the top 3.

Star Wars the Old Republic
Just going to scrape in for consideration in 2011 Game of the Year Voting. It is the first 'real' WoW contender for so many years and everything is shaping up for SWTOR to be the new MMORPG PC gamers are looking for.

Skyrim
Hard to argue with this one. Despite the graphics glitches (the game is crazy huge, don't fault it for a few glitches), Skyrims story, its landscape, its sheer weight of content blows nearly every other title here out of the water. But can it take the top spot?

Uncharted 3
Has some aiming problems when compared with its predecessor, but is still a wonderful game for the PS3. Even Harrison Ford plays it (hey what is with two Star Wars actors turning into Video Game Buffs this year?)

What is your criteria for the best game of the year?

but since it is not included in that list.. gotta go with Portal 2
Skyrim is unplayable on PS3 after long hours.. not a GOTY material for a rush port..

I think a game of the year should be:
Fun
Replayable
Good on graphics, story, and gameplay
Skyrim and Minecraft(minus graphics but that was intentional)hav e those.

Out of those games i would say LA Noire is my GOTY since Batman AC, Skyrim, and MW3 felt like just improved sequels over and isn't as "original".

it is the most frustrating game but the combate in that game is something else, it is not as big as skyrim and it doesn't have a story, but the combate in the game sure tops skyrim, and isn't gameplay the most important factor.

The scope of the game is truly epic and very well rounded in depth.
