SEGA game sales and profits fall. Weak market or poor titles to blame? |

Sega Sammy (the parent company that owns SEGA) have released their latest financial results and the news is far from good for the game developer.
SEGA did make more sales than that initially forecast for the year, but still failed to get their profits on the up.
Video games sales (i.e. SEGA developed Games) generated 33.8 billion yen, a 13% drop from last year.
A total of 4.8 Million SEGA games were sold last year, less than the same time one year ago.
It appears to be a bit of both for SEGA, who release the following 'major titles' throughout 2011:
- Captain America: Super Solider
- Rise of Nightmares
- Sakatsuku 7 Euro Plus for the PSP (Japanese only)

All three titles managed a total units sold (combined) of 850,000.
Any other titles released by SEGA in this fiscal reporting period are all below these 'names', so it is somewhat understandable that they are lacking in the sales department.
For some comparison, EA reported that Battlefield 3 has sold more than 5 million copies so far.
How does the new fiscal year and 2012 look for SEGA? Bigger titles? More game releases? Both?
Coming up for SEGA in the next 12 months are:
- Sonic Generations
- Aliens: Colonial marines
- Shinobi (3DS)
- Virtual Fighter 5 Final Showdown (PSN/XBLA)
- Phantasy Star Online 2
What do you all think the cause of this drop in sales of SEGA titles is? Poor game quality or a general trend toward buying only the 'bigger name' titles?
And can this now lot of releases help bring SEGA out of this earnings slump? I certainly hope so.
With the addition of Daytona being re-released (always a solid Need for Speed rival I think) for Xbox Live and PSN, it should be a good next 12 months for SEGA.

So, NO Sonic 4:Part 2?
Ditch generations, upscale Sonic 1,2 & 3 and make Sonic 4: Part 2.
Seriously Sega. Get a clue on what your long time customers have been screaming out for.
