QJ Shootout: Sega Genesis Vs. SNES. Which Is The Better Classic Console? - The Final Word |

The Final Word
Taking all of the data into account, I personally do think that we indeed see a clear victory of the SNES over Genesis, However believe me, this statement is made over a lot more than looking at those sales figures we talked about in that last page. The overall sales certainly could very well be a part of it because the better development teams supported the system with the biggest share, but there is also another aspect that I personally choose to consider. That aspect is legacy.

There's no denying that games like Sonic were totally fantastic in the nineties just like they are today. Still where are all the big Sega games now? The former hardware maker still does make some entries into the Sonic series every now and again, but those games are nowhere near as awesome as they were in those early years. In general, the only Sonic games that appeal to most folks only emulate the older offerings. That doesn't say much in terms of staying power.
On the other hand, Nintendo took the momentum it has started with the SNES and still manages to keep it going right on into the current generation. In terms of the raw numbers, the Wii was the most bought console this generation, and gamers are still able to get their heavy stream of awesome Mario titles that take old mechanics and continue to make them better. In that regard, the SNES simply comes off as the better option because it was the one to get everything started.
Overall Winner: SNES
Don't just sit there silent! I know there are many more sides of the debate to be heard. Let's have a discussion in the comments section below!

ONLY in the states & Japan was NINTENDO top.
Rest of the world SEGA was.
There is no such thing as a CLEAR winner when it comes to these devices. It all boils down to the PROGRAMMERS. It's how well the programmers can rip the machine to shreds and make it work for them. And I'm afraid that the programmers for the Genesis were able to get the most
performance out of the machine compared to the SNES.(TECNOSOFT were the kings)
Besides - NINTENDO is for kiddies - always has, always will!!!!!

I grew up with both and I love them both equally. Both had strengths and weaknesses over the other and were successful in their own way. Please find something to actually write about instead of bringing up this age-old console war that ended a long time ago.
