Violence and Video Games Who's Really to Blame |

I for one am tired of hearing about how bad video games are for our kids when the parents themselves are not doing their part to responsibly monitor what their kids are playing. Most people would agree that allowing your 10 year old to watch Hostel, Saw, or any other graphic movie would be inappropriate. But for some reason some still think that allowing them to play Battlefield 3 or Metal Gear Rising: Revengance would be perfectly fine. Parents need to take notice that the ESRB is there for a reason. That reason is to educate parents and buyers about the suggested appropriate age for these games based on their content.

This is a topic very dear to my heart as I myself have two small kids. While I do understand that I will not able to control everything they do or see I get the importance of explaining to them what kind of games and movies they are allowed to play or watch, and guess what... it works. They understand that there are some things they are not allowed to play or watch and they ask questions about the things they see and we discuss them. My oldest and I where in a store and we were looking at some games. He asked me if we could get one (I cant recall the name of the game) and I explained that he was not old enough for it. I then explained how the letters on the box worked and that at his age he would have to look at E rated games. He accepted this and was more than happy to look at those titles and explain it to his brother.
What do you think is it the publishers fault for making these game's or the parents for not monitoring what their kids play, you tell us.
