Sound Off: Worst Endings of All Time |
Listed in: PS3 Tags: BioWare, combat evolved, halo, mass effect 3, sound off
The controversy surrounding Mass Effect 3’s ending rolls on, with Bioware on the defensive and thousands of players continuing to vent their frustrations regarding the game’s final moments. Game-related media outlets have been all over the story, but at this point, we’re sort of dropping into an echo chamber of fan complaints and diplomatic statements by developers.

So instead of throwing yet another hissy fit about Mass Effect 3, we here at QJ thought it might be fun to revisit some of gaming’s other unfortunate endings. It’s difficult to end a story with flare; doubly so for a story with intense fan involvement. Sometimes developers really nail it (see Mass Effect 2, for example), and sometimes they really, really screw it up (any Halo game that isn’t Halo: Combat Evolved).
We want to hear your opinion on the most disappointing game endings of all time. What game did you absolutely love until the end? Which franchises came crashing to a sloppy conclusion?

Red Dead Redemption, for example, angered me but I felt it was a suitable ending.
Final Fantasy 7, had a nice ending on paper, but was executed so badly that most people I talk to who have played it can't even remember it!
