Sound Off: On Copycats |
Listed in: PS3 Tags: EA, Hideki Kamiya, playstation all-stars battle royale, super smash bros, the sims, zynga
Yesterday, this post about Hideki Kamiya’s distaste for PlayStation All-Stars (and its copycat nature) set off a string of comments either agreeing with the game developer, or decrying his judgmental attitude. Even though it’s impossible to mention PlayStation All-Stars without mentioning the game on which it is clearly based, Super Smash Bros., there appear to be those who believe that the game’s lack of originality is perfectly fine—as long as it’s delivering a fun experience.

So, in this week’s Sound Off, we want to know what you think about the copycat nature of the games industry. If Sony copies Nintendo with say, the Move, or PlayStation All-Stars, does it matter if they’re copying as long as the games are fun? And what about Zynga? Is it cool for Zynga to rip off The Sims (and get sued for it, big time), as long as the rip-off game is fun?
Where do you draw the line on copycat games? Sound off!

in the case of playstation all-stars, nintendo doesn't give a fuck. why? because anyone who liked smash bros already bought it. and it's safe to say that those poeple will continue to buy smash bro. games because they 1. like it 2. they like its exclusive character/content, one thing they won't get on the ps3 iteration.
in conclusion, anyone who actually cares about this needs to stop being a bunch of sucky-babies.
