PoV: Would you buy a PS4 with Kinect-style controls? |
Listed in: PS3 Tags: kinect, playstation 4, ps4, Sony

Nintendo has already revealed their next home vieo game console, but neither Microsoft nor Sony hav yet to announce anything conrete. Sony, in particular, has said time and again that it's not yet the right time for a PlayStation 4. That hasn;t stopped the rumor mill from buzzing along with new unconfirmed reports about the PS3's successor, however.
Tech site DigiTimes claims that sources have said the PS4 will have body-movement controls similar to that used in Microsoft's Kinect. That's not so unexpected since whether you like it or not, motion controlled gaming is quickly shaping up to be a ubiquitous feature in modern gaming platforms. Microsoft and Sony have even come up with their own motion controllers after they pretty much dismissed Nintendo's Wiimote as a fad.
Another interesting thing is that the report claims Sony intends to start production on the new console by the end of 2011, with the launch hapenning in 2012. The report continues: "Foxconn and Pegatron Technology, assemblers of PS3, will undertake assembly of PS4 as well, the sources pointed out. The planned shipment volume of PS4 in 2012 is at least 20 million units, the sources indicated."
This projected launch window doesn't match up with what Sony and even a few analysts are saying, but then again Sony hasn't really been averse to a bit of cloak and dagger action. If it does come out next year, that'll be a pretty big blow to Microsoft, which got the jump on sony for the current console generation. It could even put the PS4 en route to a head to head with the Wii U, which is confirmed to launch next year.
So, what do you guys think of a PS4 with Kinect-style controls? If it does launch next year, are you gonna buy it? I'm not. I still haven't played even half of the current PS3 games I want to play. Share your thoughts in the comments section or head to our forums to continue the discussion.

PS3 and Xbox 360 do more than I'd need just for gaming.
The only people who'd buy it are the fanboys and those who want to stay up to date always.
I have to say, I do hope Sony comes up with a new design for their PS controller because the one right now isn't exactly great for today's games

Its comfortability and flexibility is unrivaled by any controller today.
