PoV: So far so good for Battlefield 3 beta |
Listed in: PS3 Tags: battlefield 3, EA, open beta

The Battlefield 3 open beta hit the Internet today. How's it shaping up?
Only one mode is available in this open multiplayer beta: Rush on the map Operation Metro. Right from the get-go, the first thing that jumps out about Battlefield 3 are the fantastic visuals. There's no doubt the final game will look even better.
Battlefield 3 plays like previous entries in the series. The lone playable map was very large with new areas opening as the objectives changed. The HUD almost felt like Medal of Honor's. In general, Battlefield 3's slow paced combat is very different from the fast paced nature of Call of Duty.
I almost feel like it's too easy to get killed or make a kill in Battlefield 3. I've been shot down in seconds countless times.
It's fairly difficult to tell where an enemy is. A 3D spotting mechanic aids players in this, as teammates are able to spot an enemy for a limited amount of time.
Battlefield 3 features a few little additions that don't add anything to the game other than their novelty. If players look down they'll actually see legs -- yes, players now control characters that aren't floating, ala Oblivion and most first-person games. Running and vaulting over obstacles provides a very smooth animation, and the character's left arm will reach out while crawling. It's these small things that add to the immersion of a game.

it has no server browser u have to use a web browser, it has dolphin diving (we were told there would be a prone cooldown,) the game play is faster than bc2, the maps are not layed out properly and offer little cover and were there is cover and is layed out console style with large open spaces and quick corners but with no building or debris or walls. then the graphics are worse than bc2 trading some style for fake realism making it look more fake and having the same problem as crysis2 with low rez textures and lots of 90degree angles making something that could be real look fake, like the 90's style of CGI.
its just like playing COD and is as far away from bf2 as u can get without making it UT, u cannot even manage squads.
its just another series ruined by consolitis like COD, UT and quake. the whole team should be shot by a firing squad.
