PoV: Next Tony Hawk game should go back to basics

No more fancy, motion-control peripheral please, just a good ole skateboarding game will do.

Rumors of a new Tony Hawk games has surfaced today after the man himself was quoted as saying that Activision may bring about a new installment of the skateboarding franchise next year. "We're going to do something probably for next year but I can't give too much away," Hawk said.

Activision previously tried to revive the struggling series by giving it a major overhaul, replacing the the button combos with a skateboard peripheral with the release of Tony Hawk: Shred back in 2009 and last year's Tony Hawk: Ride that didn't perform very well at retail and further dragged the franchise into the mud. Soon after, the firm announced that they are putting the Tony Hawk skateboarding series on hold, saying that no new franchise entry would arrive in 2011.

Now if Activision really wants to turn this series around, they should go back to the old formula that made the Pro Skater and Underground series work. There's still plenty of room to innovate, but not with another add-on peripheral that didn't work in the first place.

annoying goals and superunrealisti c moves made me hate playing it, I remember having hours of fun on the warehouse training level on the first tony hawk for the ps1. It was solid skateboarding gameplay and tricks.

It needs to get back to the skateboarding element, add a detailed character creation tool, tons of materials in skatepark creation, and of course a great soundtrack. For me that's all it needs

yeah I would love to see the early games redone in HD like they've done with recent games collections.

the open world stuff was too much like Tomb Raider.

saying that Tony Raider might be an idea, but would he wear a bikini?
