Sony customers have been restless, understandably so, considering that credit card accounts, along with other personal information, have been exposed vulnerable to the malicious intents of whoever were behind this attack - and subsequently, whoever that is malicious enough to make use of the information they pick up from these hackers.
For the most part, Sony had been playing it very safe, choosing to hide this vital information from the consumers until they were certain that a breach had indeed occurred. This, of course, did not sit well with the people who have been sitting idly the past first week that the PSN was down, not knowing when they'll get their gaming life back on track. More importantly, they did not know just how dangerous the hack had been to them and their personal information.
When Sony finally did open up about it, they were caught under fire because of the amount of time that had already lapsed from the moment of the breach's discovery to the time that the people were made aware of just how dire the situation has become. Having kept the public in the dark for eight days, the hackers must have been having a field day enjoying all those accounts and information at their quiet disposal. No actual reports have been made of credit card frauds, but still, no credit card owner would want to sit by and just wait until actual damage has been done to his account.
And now, finally, Sony, duly represented by Kazuo Hirai and two other VPs, took to the stage and humbly uttered the word "sorry", not only to the people present in the conference, but also to all 77 million people who loyally subscribe to Sony.

I expect many memes to come out of this moment, for sure.
They coupled it with a bow, a traditional way for the Japanese to show their respect and courtesy. Now, it's no easy feat to stand before skeptics and an angry mob, much more to utter apologies, which will most likely just fly out the other ear anyway. But Hirai did so, anyway.
While some people will say that he did it because it was his job to do so, it should not be ignored that as a high ranking official of a major multimedia company, it does not come easy to show that kind of humility - forced by circumstance it may be.
As I said previously, some people may find this apology insufficient, even if it be coupled with the "goodwill gesture" package. Still, it gives out the right signal to the rest of the giant companies - or any other company for that matter - out there.
If your company screws up, own up to it. Face the music, face the angry mob, apologize if you must, and then follow through with your promises of reparation. This is corporate responsibility in full display. We wish they could have done it sooner, but hey, it's better to be ten days late than never.
Okay, just not so late next time.

That and the fact that the paid-for XML has been down several times too, and even Major Nelsons account had been hacked, make the idea of switching to the 360 because of this even more ridiculous.

Kazuo Hirai has furthered my respect for him and Sony with that gesture.
I do hope to see this problem fully reprimanded, but that takes more time than ten days, and for that time I'm going to be praying for those seventy-million people and Sony.

Sony's actually apologizing for something, maybe they actually begining to learn that it 's a bad idea to keep treating it's customers like s#it and begin to show some respect, in another month it's probably back to business as lawsuit usual but hey it's a start.

Everyone knows that Amerika is the TERRORIST capital of the world. Always putting their military-noses in every countries business. Now we have them interested in the security of the internet...Here come the Cyber Police.
I HATE YOU $ONY! I HOPE YOU DIE! I hope someone makes bombs out of all the ps3s and smokes you and all large people crushing corporations. There's some hardcore manipulation going on. I will not be a puppet.
I quit video games!
I'm not gonna be controlled by money.
I'm going to be a farmer and grow all my food, clothing and medicine. If I need anything I can either grow it or barter.
Large corporations like the Federal Amerikan government are going to enslave all humanity. I refuse to be a slave any longer! I'm going to the airport, opting out of the HIGH-radiation-naked-body-scanners, so I can be treated like a terrorist and get my TSA "palms and fingers" pat down (sexual harassment that even the pilots must endure which is very humiliating and degrading), so I can leave this Terrorist country. That's right the TSA is a post 9/11 group with the rights to treat anyone even a 6year old as a terrorist and sexually touch and feel them if they choose to opt out of the naked body scanners. Get out while you still can. The gates will be closed soon. Your precious money will be worth nothing. Don't be a sheep, think for yourself.

If Google thinks you're evil, they'll come after you. Don't trust the all knowing cyber-god. It's linking all your personal info together. Especially if you have a Facebook or Twitter. May GOD help us all!

I was thinking about starting a war on gravity. Maybe then we could all have our flying cars and hover-boards.

While this isn't one of Sony's first fuck-ups, (Initial batch of PS2's, I'm looking at you) they still managed to design a system that can hold its own against many of the more powerful computers even today, nearly 6 years after its design.
The risk of losing your credit card information is damaging to many people, but thats what happens when you save it ANYWHERE other than in your wallet. You run a risk of losing the number to anyone else, and consumers should be aware of the risks when it comes to online shopping. Don't like it? Buy the damn cards
